A Coolidge Corner gem built from one collector's 35-year passion — vintage and modern comics, Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, D&D, and collectibles in a wonderland-like atmosphere. Featured on WBZ News.
Friar Tuck's Comics & Collectibles in Brookline's Coolidge Corner neighborhood is proof that passion projects can become beloved institutions. Owner Rob Tuck spent 35 years as a voracious comic book reader before opening the shop to share his extraordinary personal collection with others. As he puts it, the collection got too big — and the result is a second-floor wonderland at 310 Harvard Street that feels like stepping into a collector's dream.
Every inch of the shop is covered with decades of memorabilia and inventory: vintage and modern comics spanning Marvel, DC, and independent publishers, including rare finds like Hulk #180 and Detective Comics #251. The trading card selection covers Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon (including Japanese variants), Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece, and My Hero Academia, with both sealed products and singles available. Dungeons & Dragons supplies, collectible figures, and vintage items round out the inventory.
The shop earned media attention with a feature on WBZ Morning News, and reviewers consistently praise its organization, knowledgeable staff, and the owner's genuine enthusiasm for helping customers — especially younger collectors browsing Pokémon cards. Rob gives free Magic cards with comic purchases, hosts events, and offers an ordering service for new releases.
The in-house theater and social space add another dimension, hosting events and gatherings that build community around shared fandoms. Located in one of Boston's most walkable neighborhoods with easy T access, Friar Tuck's has quickly become an essential stop for collectors in the Brookline-Boston area.
