Kaboom is Virginia Beach's premier Magic: The Gathering destination, a gaming-first store on S Lynnhaven Rd that has supported the MTG community since 2003 (with roots going back to 1995 as Comic Alternative). Under its current identity, Kaboom made a strategic pivot to focus exclusively on competitive and casual Magic play, cutting comics in 2012 and making MTG the centerpiece of the operation. The result is a tournament schedule that runs 7 days a week — Standard, Modern, Commander, Draft, and more — drawing dedicated players from across Hampton Roads. What truly sets Kaboom apart is the in-house food service: homemade BBQ, Dietz & Watson meat sandwiches, snacks, and drinks fuel those long tournament sessions. Pokemon pre-release events are also popular, and the singles selection continues to grow. The passionate player community is Kaboom's greatest asset — newcomers consistently report being welcomed, coached, and folded into the group.
