About This Event

Guardian Games hosts its weekly Sunday Pokémon Standard Tournament on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at 345 SE Taylor Street in Portland's Central Eastside Industrial District — Portland's premier Wizards-of-the-Coast Premium tabletop game store and one of the West Coast's most respected Play! Pokémon programs. Every Sunday afternoon, Guardian Games turns the largest dedicated TCG play space in the Pacific Northwest into a Standard-format Pokémon battleground, drawing competitive grinders working toward the next Pokémon Regional Championship qualifier, casual binder players running their first sanctioned tournament, and parents bringing kids in for an introductory Play! Pokémon experience. Mid-August timing drops the event right into the post-Pokémon-World-Championships rumor cycle, with the latest Scarlet & Violet sets settling on the secondary market, the next set's pull-rate spreadsheets circulating on social, and the Pokémon TCG Pocket digital-to-physical promo cycle continuing to drive demand for crossover Standard-legal cards.

The Sunday Standard event is run as a traditional Play! Pokémon Standard tournament — three-to-five rounds of best-of-one Swiss based on attendance, with rotating Standard-legal sets only (Scarlet & Violet, Paldea Evolved, Obsidian Flames, Paradox Rift, Temporal Forces, Twilight Masquerade, Shrouded Fable, Stellar Crown, Surging Sparks, Journey Together, and any newer expansion in rotation at event time). Players are responsible for bringing a legal 60-card Standard deck, sleeves, dice, status counters, and a damage tracker. Match-prize support is paid out in Pokémon TCG booster packs (typically the most recent Standard-legal expansion), with bonus packs awarded for round wins and event finishes.

Doors open at 1:00 PM PDT for check-in and registration, and the first round of Standard pairings begins at 2:00 PM PDT. Total play time runs four to five hours depending on attendance, wrapping up by 6:00 PM PDT. Entry is $5 cash at the counter — one of the most accessible sanctioned-Pokémon entry fees in the Pacific Northwest. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcomed; a valid Play! Pokémon Player ID is required to score sanctioned tournament points (kids and first-timers can sign up for a free Player ID at check-in). The store also runs a competitive Modern, Pioneer, and Commander Magic: The Gathering schedule on weeknights, a weekly Yu-Gi-Oh! Saturday locals, and a One Piece TCG locals, so check the store's events page if you want to extend your weekend.

Guardian Games is at 345 SE Taylor Street, Portland, OR 97214, on the boundary between the Central Eastside Industrial District and the Buckman neighborhood, with easy access from Interstates 5, 84, and 405 and a short walk from the MAX Light Rail Red and Blue lines and multiple TriMet bus stops. The play space is climate-controlled, ADA-accessible, and includes a full bar, a kitchen serving a board-game-friendly menu, and a retail floor stocked with sealed Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Lorcana, and tabletop product. Free street parking is generally available on weekends.

This tournament fits competitive Standard players working through Pokémon Regional Championship qualification, casual binder players, parents bringing kids to a first sanctioned event, and walk-in collectors looking to buy sealed product. For the best experience, arrive at 1:00 PM sharp, bring a tested 60-card deck, double-sleeve everything, pack a deck-box and dice, and follow @guardiangamespdx on Instagram for set legality updates and special-event announcements.
