2025 Topps Chrome Football Drops Today: Topps Reclaims the NFL With Tom Brady, Barry Sanders, and Tecmo Super Bowl Autographs

The first fully licensed Topps Chrome Football since 2015 lands today. Tom Brady on-card autographs return for the first time in five years, Barry Sanders signs alongside the 2025 rookie class, and the new Tecmo Super Bowl insert program is the breakout chase of the release.

The wait is over. 2025 Topps Chrome Football hits the hobby today, May 1, 2026, marking the first fully licensed NFL Chrome release from Topps in a decade. After Panini held the exclusive license from 2016 through the end of the 2024 season, Topps officially reclaimed the NFL deal as part of the Fanatics consolidation, and Chrome is the flagship product carrying the company back into the football aisle.

Why This Release Matters

Chrome Football has carried legendary status in the hobby since the original 2000 set introduced the modern Refractor era. The 2025 edition is the first since 2015 to feature full team logos, jersey numbers, and uniform photography on every card. That alone makes the base set a milestone, but the on-card autograph checklist is where collectors are pointing the spotlight today.

"Tom Brady has not had a pack-pulled licensed autograph since 2021. Pulling one out of a 2025 Chrome box feels like a hobby reset button."

What Is Inside the Boxes

The base set spans 400 cards, blending veterans, returning legends, and the 2025 rookie class. Parallels run from base Refractors through Pink, Aqua, Blue, Green, Gold /50, Orange /25, Red /5, SuperFractor 1/1, and the Black 1/1. Hits to chase include:

  • Tecmo Super Bowl Autographs — on-card white-ink signatures designed to look like scenes from the 1989 video game classic. This is the breakout new insert of the year.
  • Tom Brady on-card autos — his first pack-pulled licensed Chrome auto since 2021.
  • Barry Sanders on-card autos — a rare hobby appearance for the Lions great.
  • Josh Allen and Jahmyr Gibbs veterans alongside Jaxson Dart and Tetairoa McMillan rookie autos headlining the 2025 RC class.

Configuration and Pricing

Hobby boxes carry an MSRP target around \$300, with retail Mega Boxes, Value Boxes, and Hanger Boxes shipping in parallel today. Mega Box exclusive parallels return for the first time since the Topps NFL era, giving Target and Walmart shoppers their own chase.

Market Reaction in the First Hours

Pre-sale Hobby boxes on the secondary market have been trading well above MSRP all week, and the first live breaks this morning lit up Whatnot and Fanatics Live. With Brady's Tampa-era cards still moving and Sanders cards already at multi-thousand-dollar levels, expect early Tecmo SP autos and high-end Refractor /5 and 1/1s to find six-figure homes inside the first weekend.

What to Watch

The biggest open question is print run. Topps has not announced exact production levels, and one of the lessons of the 2024 hobby was that perceived overproduction can collapse a release inside thirty days. Watch the eBay sold rate on base hobby boxes between now and Mother's Day weekend — that is the cleanest leading indicator of whether 2025 Chrome Football holds its premium or settles back to MSRP.

If you are heading to a card show this weekend, expect Chrome to dominate the table chatter. The Dallas Card Show is in the Bay Area, Fort Lauderdale is running its three-day weekend, and Philly Non-Sports is back in Oaks — and every dealer in those rooms has the same question: how many boxes did you pull?
