Goldin Spring TCG and Manga Elite Auction Opens With Sealed 1996 Japanese Pokemon, MTG Gamma Sheets, and Manga First Appearances

Goldin's 2026 Spring TCG and Manga Elite Auction is live through May 17, anchored by a sealed 1996 Japanese Pokemon Base Set Booster Box, a 1992 MTG Gamma Playtest uncut sheet collection, and three Shonen Jump issues featuring the first appearances of Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Naruto.

Goldin Just Opened a Spring Auction Stacked With Genuine Hobby Holy Grails

Goldin's 2026 Spring TCG & Manga Elite Auction is live, running from April 24 through May 17, and the catalog reads like a museum exhibit on the modern collectibles boom. The headline lots span Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece, and the manga first-appearance issues that started the Shonen Jump dynasty.

If you have been waiting for a single auction window to see where the truly elite end of the TCG market is priced in 2026, this is it.

The Pokemon Lots That Will Set Comps

Three Pokemon items in this catalog will reset reference prices the moment they hammer:

  • 1996 Pokemon Japanese Base Set Factory-Sealed Booster Box (60 packs). The first Pokemon booster box ever produced, anywhere. Sealed Japanese Base Boxes have been six-figure items for years; this one will likely test new territory given how few survive untouched.
  • 2002 Pokemon Legendary Collection Factory-Sealed Blister Store Display (24 blister packs). Store-display level sealed product is the rarest condition tier in vintage WOTC, and Legendary Collection blister displays almost never appear at public auction.
  • 2005 Pokemon European EX Deoxys Factory-Sealed Booster Box. EX Deoxys boxes have been climbing for two years on the strength of Rayquaza ex Gold Star demand. A sealed European print is one of the hardest formats to source.

Magic: The Gathering's Most Iconic Pre-Production Lot

The auction is led by a 1992 Magic: The Gathering Gamma Playtest Uncut Sheets Collection: 16 sheets, 252 cards, all from the pre-Alpha test print run that pre-dates the official 1993 release. Gamma sheets are functionally the equivalent of an unreleased "first pressing" in music collecting. Single Gamma cards have traded in the high five and low six figures privately. A 252-card uncut collection at public auction is, as far as the auction record is concerned, unprecedented.

One Piece TCG Goes Vintage Already

One Piece launched in late 2022, and yet sealed boxes from the very first English printing have already hit elite-auction status. The Goldin lot of 12 sealed One Piece OP01 Romance Dawn Booster Boxes from the original distributor case is the kind of bulk-sealed lot serious investors target when they want to bet on a young IP without buying singles. OP01 sealed has tripled and quadrupled in the secondary market over the last 18 months.

Manga First Appearances: A New Adjacent Market

Three Weekly Shonen Jump issues round out the manga side of the catalog, and they are not subtle:

  • Weekly Shonen Jump #51 (1984): First appearance of Dragon Ball.
  • Weekly Shonen Jump #34 (1997): First appearance of One Piece.
  • Weekly Shonen Jump #43 (1999): First appearance of Naruto.

If you collect TCG-adjacent IP, those three issues are the equivalent of Action Comics #1, Detective Comics #27, and Amazing Fantasy #15 for the manga era. Goldin offering them in the same window as the One Piece OP01 sealed bricks is not a coincidence.

How to Watch the Auction

The auction runs through Saturday, May 17. Even if you have no intention of bidding, watching the Goldin live results page in the final 48 hours is the cheapest market education you can get on where the top of the TCG and manga pyramid is priced in spring 2026. Comps from this sale will be referenced in valuation reports, insurance appraisals, and TCGplayer market posts for the rest of the year.
