MagicCon Amsterdam Preview: Three New Set Announcements, The Hobbit Debut, and a $500K Pro Tour This Weekend

MagicCon Amsterdam runs July 17-19 with three brand-new Magic sets to be announced, The Hobbit's official spoiler debut, and Pro Tour Marvel Super Heroes. Plus the Star Trek first look airs today on Weekly MTG. What collectors should watch.

Three Days, Three New Sets, One Pro Tour

MagicCon Amsterdam takes over the RAI convention center this Friday through Sunday, July 17 to 19, and it is shaping up as the most consequential Magic weekend of the summer. Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that three brand-new sets will be announced at the show, The Hobbit gets its official preview debut, and Pro Tour Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes crowns a champion on-site with a 500,000 dollar prize pool. For collectors deciding where the back half of 2026 budgets go, this is the weekend the map gets drawn.

The Panels That Matter

Reality Fracture and the Future of the Magic Multiverse

Friday's main preview panel will reveal the names and directions of the upcoming in-universe sets, including first looks at Reality Fracture, the sci-fi followup to this summer's Edge of Eternities. In-universe sets have quietly become the supply-discipline side of Magic's catalog, and collectors burned by crossover print runs will be watching how Wizards positions them.

There and Back Again: The Hobbit Debut

The Hobbit panel kickstarts the set's official spoiler season. The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth produced the most valuable Magic card ever printed in The One Ring, and the hobby has been waiting to see whether the Hobbit set gets its own headline-grabbing serialized chase. Whatever is revealed in Amsterdam will set the speculation tone for the rest of the year.

The Star Trek First Look Lands Today

Before the convention even opens, Wizards hosts the first look at Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek today on Weekly MTG at 10 a.m. Pacific on Twitch. The November 13 set has been confirmed for months, but today is the first real card reveal. Between Star Trek, The Hobbit, and Marvel, the crossover calendar is stacked, which is exactly why the Amsterdam in-universe announcements matter for anyone tracking where scarcity actually lives.

Pro Tour Marvel Super Heroes

The Pro Tour runs all weekend in Booster Draft and Modern Constructed, the first premier-level test of Marvel Super Heroes as a competitive product. Breakout decks reprice singles in real time, and with an Arena Direct sealed event running July 17 to 26 alongside it, Marvel singles and sealed both have a volatile week ahead. The Arena Store's villain-themed summer sale also opens today for the digital crowd.

Amsterdam is where the 2026 Magic story stops being a release calendar and starts being a collecting strategy.

Follow the panels Friday, watch the Pro Tour metagame Saturday, and expect the singles market to have opinions by Monday.
