One Piece OP-17 Locks Its Dates: The World's Strongest Warriors Hits August 28 With the Game's First Manga Rares
Bandai has confirmed OP-17 for August 22 in Japan and August 28 in English, the first main One Piece booster to launch globally in the same week. The anniversary set brings the game's first Manga Leader, Manga Rares of the Four Emperors, and a new Gold Anniversary SP tier.
The Dates Are Locked
Bandai has made it official on its product pages: OP-17, The World's Strongest Warriors, releases in Japan on August 22, 2026, with the English wide release following on August 28 and US pre-release events on August 21. After a spoiler season that has been running hot since early July, the fourth-anniversary set now has a firm finish line, and it comes with a milestone: this is the first main One Piece booster to launch globally within a single week, effectively a simultaneous worldwide drop.
What's in the Set
The World's Strongest Warriors is themed around the Impel Down and Marineford arcs, the emotional high-water mark of the original series, and leans heavily on returning Leaders that veteran players will recognize from the game's earliest sets. As the anniversary release, Bandai is loading it with firsts:
- The game's first Manga Leader, a new card type collectors have been requesting since the manga-style treatments debuted.
- Manga Rares of the original Four Emperors: Shanks, Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom, plus Luffy. These are expected to be the primary chase cards of the set.
- Six special parallels (SPs) in the standard rotation.
- Gold Anniversary SPs featuring Shanks, Monkey D. Luffy, Blackbeard, and Buggy, a new premium tier above the standard SP treatment.
Why the Global Launch Matters
Historically, English One Piece sets have trailed Japan by months, and that gap created a well-worn arbitrage cycle: Japanese singles and sealed product would surge on release, then correct when the English print arrived. A near-simultaneous launch compresses that entire cycle. Expect less of a premium on Japanese product this time, and expect English pre-release promos on August 21 to carry more weight than usual since they arrive just one day ahead of Japan's street date.
What Collectors Should Do Now
Pre-orders for OP-17 have been live at most retailers, and anniversary sets have historically been among the most heavily allocated in the game's four-year run. If the Gold Anniversary SPs perform anything like the Manga Rares from recent premium sets, sealed demand will be intense. Check with your local shop about pre-release seats for August 21 now; those events have been selling out weeks in advance for major sets, and this is the biggest One Piece release of the year.
