Pokemon Black Bolt and White Flare Bring All 156 Unova Pokemon and a New Rarity July 18

The Scarlet and Violet split expansion Black Bolt and White Flare lands internationally July 18, covering every one of the 156 original Unova Pokemon and debuting the striking new Black White rare. There is a catch: no traditional booster boxes.

Black Bolt and White Flare Bring Unova Back in Full

Pokemon TCG collectors with a soft spot for Generation V have a big summer ahead. The split expansion Scarlet and Violet—Black Bolt and Scarlet and Violet—White Flare hits internationally on July 18, 2026, following the Japanese release in early June. Between the two sets, every one of the 156 Pokemon originally introduced in the Unova region gets a card.

That is a nostalgia play with real collecting weight. If you grew up on Black and White, this is the most complete Unova tribute the TCG has ever produced.

A New Rarity Worth Chasing

The marquee feature is a brand-new rarity called the Black White rare. These cards place a Pokemon against a stark, solid monochromatic background—pure black or pure white—with elaborate holofoil patterning that makes the artwork pop. It is a striking, minimalist look unlike anything else in the current Scarlet and Violet era.

  • Full coverage: All 156 original Unova Pokemon appear across the two sets.
  • Full art everywhere: Every Pokemon card in the expansion also has a full-art variant at illustration rare or better.
  • Trainer love: Expect a deep run of character-focused cards featuring Unova favorites like Hilda.

The Catch: No Traditional Booster Boxes

Here is the wrinkle that will shape the secondary market. Black Bolt and White Flare packs will not be sold in standard booster boxes. Instead, packs are tucked into specialty products like Elite Trainer Boxes, Binder Collections, the Unova Poster Collection, and Unova Mini Tins.

When packs are only available through specialty products, sealed supply behaves differently. Singles tend to carry more of the demand, and well-distributed specialty items can hold value better than a typical booster box.

Collector Strategy

If you are a player chasing singles, the no-booster-box structure may actually work in your favor, since strong cards will flow to the singles market quickly. If you are a sealed collector, prioritize the Elite Trainer Boxes and the limited-feeling Poster and Binder collections, and do not wait too long—specialty-only print runs have a way of drying up faster than collectors expect.
