Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution - Pitch Black Fully Revealed: Four Mega ex, 115+ Cards, and a July 4 Prerelease
The complete Pitch Black lineup is out. The July 17 expansion is led by Mega Darkrai ex alongside Mega Zeraora, Chandelure, and Excadrill ex, packs more than 115 cards, and kicks off with a July 4 prerelease. Here is the collector's breakdown.
The next Pokemon TCG expansion is fully out in the open. The Pokemon Company has revealed the complete lineup for Mega Evolution - Pitch Black, the set arriving at participating retailers on July 17, 2026, and it is shaping up to be one of the darkest, most aggressive-looking releases of the Mega Evolution era.
Four Mega Evolutions Headline the Set
Pitch Black is led by Mega Darkrai ex, the set mascot, alongside Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex, and Mega Excadrill ex. The expansion is tied to the Mega Dimension DLC of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, with Darkrai and Zeraora sitting at the thematic center.
In total, Pitch Black brings more than 115 cards, and the rarity breakdown is stacked for collectors:
- Six Mega Evolution Pokemon ex anchoring the set's chase tier.
- Four additional Pokemon ex.
- Eleven illustration rare Pokemon.
- Eighteen ultra rare Pokemon and Trainer cards.
- Six special illustration rare Pokemon and Supporter cards - the cards that tend to drive the highest secondary prices.
Prerelease Lands First
You do not have to wait until July 17 to get hands-on. Starting July 4, 2026, select Play! Pokemon stores will begin selling the Pitch Black Build & Battle Box, giving Trainers an early prerelease battle experience roughly two weeks before the official street date.
The four prerelease promos have already been confirmed: Dhelmise, Slowbro, Miraidon, and Bastiodon. Prerelease promos carry their own collectibility - they are the version of the set most casual buyers never see, which keeps them in demand long after the main release cools off.
How to Play It Smart
The all-foil, Mega-heavy formula has been a reliable secondary-market performer this year, and a four-Mega chase lineup gives Pitch Black plenty of pull.
If you are a player, the Build & Battle Box on July 4 is the cheapest way to get a feel for the new Megas before committing to booster boxes. If you are a collector, the special illustration rares and the prerelease promos are the cards most likely to hold value. And if you are flipping, remember that early hype on Mega sets often peaks around launch week before settling - patience usually rewards the buyer, not the seller, a month or two out.
