Pokemon TCG 30th Celebration Officially Revealed With a Brand New Futuristic Rare Rarity

The Pokemon Company has officially unveiled 30th Celebration, the September 16 anniversary set that brings a brand new Futuristic Rare rarity illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN, 30 different artist Pikachus, and the first-ever simultaneous worldwide Pokemon TCG launch. Here is what landed in the reveal.

The Pokemon Company pulled the curtain back this morning on the long-teased anniversary expansion, and the official name is now confirmed: Pokemon TCG: 30th Celebration. The reveal landed at 6:00 a.m. PT and ended weeks of leaks with a single big surprise β€” the set introduces a brand-new card rarity.

The New Rarity: Futuristic Rare

For the first time in years, the Pokemon TCG is adding a new chase tier. It is called Futuristic Rare, and every card in the slot will be illustrated by the Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN in an opalescent, pearlescent treatment that the company describes as evoking "hope toward an unknown future."

The two cards revealed so far in the new rarity are Mew and Mewtwo, the same duo that headlined the Pokemon Day teaser back in February. Additional Futuristic Rares are expected to be sprinkled across the set, and based on the teaser language the Pokemon Company is treating it as a permanent new rarity, not a one-set gimmick.

30 Pikachus, 30 Artists, One in Every Pack

The other headline feature is exactly what previous leaks suggested. Every single 30th Celebration booster pack will include one of 30 different Pikachu cards, each illustrated by a different artist. That guarantees a chase Pikachu in every pack of the set's life cycle.

On top of that, 30th Celebration brings back 30 classic Pokemon cards β€” fan favorites pulled from across TCG history, each stamped with a "30" Pikachu mark and given special foil treatment. It is the closest thing the modern TCG has produced to the 2021 Celebrations set, but on a much larger scale.

Quick Set Facts

  • Release date: September 16, 2026 β€” the first Pokemon TCG expansion to launch worldwide simultaneously in participating markets
  • Cards per pack: 6 (all foil)
  • Set size: approximately 150 cards before secret rares
  • New rarity: Futuristic Rare, illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN
  • Guaranteed pull: One of 30 unique Pikachu cards per pack
  • Returning content: 30 classic cards with anniversary stamps

What It Means for Collectors

This is the first expansion built deliberately around case-hits being concentrated in two intersecting chases: the Futuristic Rare slot and the Pikachu-artist gallery. Expect singles activity to be heavy on individual artist Pikachus the day product drops, with the Mew and Mewtwo Futuristic Rares likely commanding the most attention from grading queues.

The simultaneous worldwide release is also a meaningful shift. There will be no Japan-first window to arbitrage, which is going to compress the early secondary market in a way the hobby has not seen on a Pokemon flagship before.

Pre-orders should open at major distributors and big-box retailers in the coming weeks. If you collect Pikachu, this is the set of the decade for you. If you are a flipper, the all-foil structure and the new rarity make 30th Celebration a high-variance product to open and an even higher-variance product to sit on sealed.
