Pokemon TCG Pocket Paradox Drive Goes Live: Ancient and Future Mechanics Reshape the Meta on Day One
Pokemon TCG Pocket's most ambitious expansion is live. Paradox Drive launched May 27 with 200-plus cards, Koraidon and Miraidon ex chases, and the first category-based deckbuilding the game has ever shipped.
Pokemon TCG Pocket dropped its most ambitious expansion to date last night. Paradox Drive (B3a) went live at 6:00 PM PDT on May 27, pushing more than 200 new cards into the app and, for the first time, splitting the meta into two brand-new categories: Ancient and Future. Less than a day in, the launch has already reshaped what most decks look like.
What Is Paradox Drive?
Paradox Drive is the B3a themed booster pack tied to the depths of Area Zero from Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. The headline pulls are Koraidon ex and Miraidon ex, but the bigger story is structural. Paradox Drive is the first Pocket set to bake category tags into deckbuilding, with new Supporters, Tools, and Energy effects that only fire if your Pokemon are Ancient or Future.
- Launch: May 27, 2026 at 6:00 PM PDT.
- Set size: 200-plus cards, the largest Pocket booster yet.
- New mechanics: Ancient and Future category synergies, Professor Sada and Professor Turo Supporters, type-restricted Tools, and an Energy effect that breaks the one-attachment-per-turn rule for Ancient and Future Pokemon.
- Top chase cards: Koraidon ex, Miraidon ex, plus Raging Bolt and Iron Hands as secondary chases.
Day 1 Tier Snapshot
Early ladder data is preliminary and decks are still being tuned, but a few archetypes have already separated from the pack. Koraidon ex Future Hands lists, leaning on Iron Hands as a secondary attacker, are putting up the highest win rates so far, with Miraidon ex aggro builds close behind. Mega Lucario ex from Pulsing Aura is still relevant, but its splashability has dropped now that Ancient and Future toolkits give you better in-category options.
"Paradox Drive is the first Pocket set that actually punishes you for ignoring the new mechanic. If your deck has zero Ancient or Future Pokemon, you are leaving a lot of free effects on the table."
What Players Are Saying About the Pulls
It is too early to call official pull rates, but the community consensus through launch night is that Paradox Drive is following the same broad rarity curve as Pulsing Aura. Trade Tokens are dropping at a healthy clip, the new Wonder Pick rotation is generous, and the Paradox Drive Emblem Event is already live for players who log in this week.
Coming Up in the Paradox Drive Window
- Now through early June: Paradox Drive Emblem Event with daily missions tied to Ancient and Future Pokemon.
- Early June: Community Week with trade boosts.
- Mid to late June: Ceruledge ex Drop Event plus a Wonder Pick featuring Sableye and Floragato.
Should You Open Packs Now or Wait?
If you are an active player chasing the meta, opening into Paradox Drive on day one is the move β Koraidon and Miraidon engines are the new ceiling and you want the Pokemon to test with. If you are purely a collector, history says Pocket sets tend to settle on Trade Token value within two to three weeks, so there is no penalty for taking your time. Either way, this is the most consequential Pocket release since the game launched, and the meta is going to look very different two weeks from now than it does this morning.
