Yu-Gi-Oh North America WCQ 2026 Takes Over Minneapolis July 10-12: The First Nationals of the Chaos Origins Era
The North America World Championship Qualifier runs July 10-12 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, just eight days after Chaos Origins hit shelves. Here is what the weekend means for players, collectors, and the new format - plus the misprint story collectors should know about.
The Biggest Weekend in North American Yu-Gi-Oh Is Here
The North America World Championship Qualifier runs July 10-12 at the Minneapolis Convention Center (Exhibit Halls C and D), and it is the single most important tournament weekend on the continent's Yu-Gi-Oh calendar. The main event is invitation-only: every Duelist in the room earned their seat at a Regional Qualifier, an OTS Championship, a Dragon Duel, or a Yu-Gi-Oh Championship Series event over the past season. The winners punch tickets to the World Championship in Japan later this year.
Missed an invite? There is still a door in. Last-Chance Qualifiers run Friday, July 10, giving uninvited players one final shot at cracking the main event. And unlike most premier events, there is no entry fee for the NAWCQ itself.
The First Nationals of the Chaos Origins Era
The timing makes this WCQ especially interesting. Chaos Origins hit shelves July 2, just eight days before round one, which means Minneapolis is the format's first premier-level stress test. The set rebuilds Yami Yugi's most iconic monsters with modern, tournament-viable effects, and the whole hobby will be watching whether any of those nostalgia rebuilds actually crack top-cut decklists.
What it means for cards and collectors
- Tech cards spike fast. Any surprise engine that tops a WCQ tends to jump in price before the weekend is over. Watch the Sunday top-cut lists closely.
- Chaos Origins chase cards get their verdict. A competitive showing for the new Black Luster Soldier and Magician of Black Chaos support would push singles that are already moving.
- Event exclusives and public events. The WCQ floor runs a full slate of public events all weekend, with prize cards that historically become long-term collectibles.
One More Wrinkle: The Misprint Story
Chaos Origins also arrived with a genuine printing error. In English product across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Oceania, the Secret Rare and extended-art Ultra Rare versions of The Chaotic Phantasmal Sacred Beasts mistakenly carry the name "The Chaotic Sacred Beasts." Misprints like this have a habit of becoming their own collecting niche, so if you pull one, do not assume it is worthless β error cards from major sets often carry a premium with the right buyer.
What Comes After Minneapolis
Konami barely gets a breather: the company brings the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG and Master Duel to San Diego Comic-Con July 22-26, and then attention shifts fully to the World Championship in Japan.
