🃏 About This Event

The TCG, Pokemon and Sports Collectors Show returns to the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel in downtown Stockton on Saturday, August 29, and it is one of the few shows in the northern Central Valley that gives trading card games genuinely equal billing with sports cards. Admission is free, which alone makes it worth the trip for collectors anywhere between Modesto and Sacramento — and it is a straightforward two-hour run up Highway 99 from Fresno.

The balance of the floor is what sets this show apart. Pokemon vendors turn out in force, carrying sealed English and Japanese product, current-set singles, vintage WOTC-era cards and graded slabs. Magic: The Gathering dealers stock everything from Commander staples to reserved-list singles, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Disney Lorcana and Dragon Ball Super each have a presence. On the sports side, expect solid tables of baseball, basketball and football — vintage Topps, star rookies, modern chrome and prizm parallels, and plenty of sealed wax. Hockey, soccer and combat sports show up in smaller numbers. Fill out the floor with autographed memorabilia, comics, Funko Pops, sports figures and hobby supplies, and there is enough variety to keep a mixed group of collectors occupied.

Hours are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, single day. Seven hours is a comfortable window for a show this size — most attendees walk the whole floor twice without feeling rushed. The first hour is the sharpest for finding underpriced singles; the last ninety minutes is where dealers get most willing to deal on bigger items rather than repack them.

Admission is free for everyone. There is no ticket to buy in advance and no VIP tier, which is a deliberate choice by the organizers to keep the show accessible to families and younger collectors. Kids are welcome and the atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried.

The University Plaza Waterfront Hotel is at 110 West Fremont Street on the downtown Stockton waterfront, adjacent to the Stockton Arena and the marina. Parking is available in the hotel lot and in nearby downtown structures; weekend rates are low and street parking is usually findable within a block or two. The event space is indoors, air-conditioned and easy to navigate, and there are restaurants within walking distance along the waterfront if you want to break for lunch mid-show.

This show is a particularly good fit for TCG players and Pokemon collectors, who often find sports-heavy shows frustrating. It is also a good first show for newcomers — free entry removes the risk, and the vendor crowd here is patient with beginner questions. Sports card collectors will find plenty, though the floor is smaller than a dedicated sports-only convention.

Some tips. Bring cash — free-admission shows tend to have more small vendors, and small vendors often prefer it. Bring your own sleeves and top loaders for anything you buy raw. If you are hunting Pokemon singles, check multiple tables before buying; pricing spreads on the same card can be significant at a show this size. And bring a want list on your phone with recent comps, because a good comp screenshot is the fastest way to close a fair deal.

For questions, the organizers can be reached at 209-696-9357, and show updates are posted on their Facebook page.
