Theros Beyond Death: Booster Box Prices & Sealed Products

Jan 2020THBfrom $404.834 sealed products

Theros Beyond Death arrived in January 2020, eight months before Set Boosters existed, so its sealed lineup is the older two-booster shape: Draft Boosters for playing and Collector Boosters for collecting. It is also one of the few sets from that era whose singles have quietly outrun its sealed product, largely thanks to a handful of cards that never left competitive play.

Sealed products for Theros Beyond Death

Draft Booster Box

Thirty-six packs of 15 game cards plus a token or ad card. Each pack holds ten commons, three uncommons, a rare or mythic and a basic land, and roughly one pack in three swaps a common for a foil of any rarity. The set's limited format was slow, grindy and well liked, and this is the box you want if you plan to draft it. Sealed boxes sit at $140-$195 as of September 2026, with the bulk of completed sales between $160 and $190.

Collector Booster Box

Twelve packs of about 15 cards, each with foil commons and uncommons, a foil rare or mythic, an extended-art rare or mythic, a showcase or borderless card and a foil token. Theros Collector Boosters were printed in larger numbers than Eldraine's and the box reflects that, trading at $240-$350 with a center of gravity near $270-$310.

Bundle

Ten Draft Boosters, twenty foil Nyx basic lands, twenty regular basics, an alternate-art promo, an oversized spindown and a storage box. The foil constellation lands are the real draw here and are the reason these bundles get bought and cracked rather than held. Figure $55-$95.

Theme Boosters

Five 35-card mono-colored packs containing one or two rares. Built for kitchen-table players, not collectors, and they hold little sealed premium at $10-$20.

Planeswalker Decks

Two 60-card decks led by Elspeth, Undaunted Hero and Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears, each with a planeswalker exclusive to the product. They run $12-$25 sealed.

Prerelease Kit

Six Draft Boosters, a foil year-stamped rare or mythic, a spindown die and a box. Prerelease kits from THB trade at $30-$50 and are one of the cheaper ways to open the set.

Booster Case

Six boxes to a case for either booster type. A sealed case is the only purchase where reseal risk is effectively zero, which is why cases carry a premium over six individual boxes.

Chase cards and Booster Fun treatments

Shadowspear leads the set at roughly $35, a colorless equipment that found a home in every format that allows it. Thassa, Deep-Dwelling and Nyxbloom Ancient sit near $29, Thassa's Oracle near $23 on the strength of being half of Legacy and Commander's most famous two-card combo, and Heliod, Sun-Crowned near $22. Underworld Breach at around $11 is banned in both Legacy and Pioneer, which caps it, and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove holds around $10 on Modern demand.

The set's signature treatment is the Nyx constellation basic lands, full-art starfield versions of all five basics that appeared in regular Draft Boosters rather than being locked behind Collector Boosters. Beyond those there are three borderless planeswalkers, a showcase frame styled as a carved Theran tablet applied to the gods and a handful of legends, and extended-art versions of the rares and mythics found only in Collector Boosters.

As always with Magic, Wizards lists which slots a Collector Booster contains and does not publish per-card odds, so any pull-rate number attached to a listing is that seller's invention.

Is Theros Beyond Death worth buying sealed?

As a hold, no. Theros was printed in normal 2020 volumes, meaning very large, and a Draft Booster box at $170 is not returning that in singles. The set's top cards are strong but there are only five or six of them, and the rest of the rare slot is close to bulk. The expected value of an average box has been well under the box price since the year it released.

There is a narrow case for the Collector Booster box if you want extended-art copies of Thassa's Oracle, Shadowspear and Heliod for a Commander collection, since buying those three in extended-art foil individually is not cheap. That is a specific want, not a general one. For everyone else, singles are the answer and the Draft box is a fine purchase if what you want is a draft night. Do not expect either to appreciate meaningfully.

How to spot fakes, resealed and mapped boxes

The tells are the same as any 2020-era Magic box. Factory shrink should be tight and even, with a single clean seam and no wrinkling or adhesive residue near the flaps. A Collector Booster box that has been opened and rewrapped usually shows a slightly loose fit and a seam in the wrong place. If the box rattles or the packs inside shift audibly, that is worth a question.

Loose packs are where buyers lose money. Collector Boosters from this period are weighable, and a seller who has mapped a box and is selling the leftovers is selling you packs already stripped of their foils. Buy sealed boxes from shops that can tell you where the box came from, and prefer product pulled from a sealed case. Counterfeit sealed Magic boxes circulate for high-value sets; compare the box art print quality and set symbol placement against a known-good photo before paying.

Where to buy Theros Beyond Death sealed

Shops that have been open since 2020 are the likeliest source for THB sealed, and their prices often lag the online market. Search the card shop directory for stores near you, and browse card shows where bundles and prerelease kits from this era are common in dealer cases. Online, these strings return the cleanest results:

Frequently asked questions

How many packs are in a Theros Beyond Death booster box?

A Draft Booster box holds 36 packs of 15 cards. A Collector Booster box holds 12 packs of roughly 15 cards.

Is Theros Beyond Death Standard legal?

No. It rotated out of Standard in September 2021 and is now legal in Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage and Commander.

Does Theros Beyond Death have Set Boosters?

No. Set Boosters launched with Zendikar Rising in September 2020, eight months after THB. The set shipped Draft Boosters, Collector Boosters and Theme Boosters.

What is the most valuable Theros Beyond Death card?

Shadowspear, at roughly $35 in its standard printing. Thassa, Deep-Dwelling, Nyxbloom Ancient, Thassa's Oracle and Heliod, Sun-Crowned follow in the $20-$30 range.

Is Theros Beyond Death still in print?

No, it has been out of print for years. Cards from the set continue to be reprinted individually in other products.

Should I buy a Draft or Collector Booster box?

Draft boxes are for playing and are far cheaper per pack. The Collector box is the only sealed source of extended-art and showcase versions, which is its whole argument.
