Hobby Box

The hobby configuration has been stable across seasons: 24 packs of four cards, two Chrome autographs guaranteed, twelve boxes to a case. Topps priced the 2024-25 edition at $179.99 in presale and $189.99 on release day, and the 2025-26 edition followed the same structure with two Chrome autographs per box. Hobby is the only format with access to the hobby-exclusive insert sets and the full refractor rainbow.

Breaker's Delight

Breaker's Delight is one pack of twelve cards in a box with three autographs. It is built for high-yield opening and priced accordingly - a break format rather than a value format, and not something to buy sealed for the long term.

Mega Box

Megas run six packs of ten cards and were priced at $49.99 in presale for the 2024-25 edition. No autograph guarantee, but they carry retail-side parallels that hobby cannot produce.

At roughly $180 to $260 for a 24-pack box with two on-chrome autographs, the configuration is generous by any standard, and that is the strongest argument for the product. The historical pattern is also encouraging: boxes from seasons where a prospect became a star have appreciated well past issue price, and the sealed supply is far smaller than any NBA flagship release.

The honest counterweight is failure rate. College prospects wash out constantly, and a box of autographs from players who never make a roster has close to no resale value. There is also no NBA licensing here at all - these are college cards, and a collector who wants an NBA rookie card is in the wrong product. The sensible approach is to buy seasons where the top of the class is already visible, hold those, and treat everything else as an enjoyable rip rather than a position.

Value blasters and megas are searched far more often than hobby, particularly during March, when a specific prospect is drawing attention. Buy retail sealed from shops rather than marketplace sellers wherever possible. On singles, chrome refractors and Sapphire parallels are the counterfeit targets - check foil edge quality, serial number stamping and back print darkness, and buy graded above a few hundred dollars. Also verify whether an autograph is a delivered card or an unredeemed redemption, and whether that redemption has expired.
