Panini Black Football: Hobby Box Prices, Hits and Chase Cards

from $449.991 sealed products

Panini Black is the darkest-looking product on the football calendar and one of the most consistent: seven editions from 2019 through 2025, the same five-card box every year, and the same three guaranteed hits. It sat just below Panini's true super-premium tier, priced in the $400 to $500 band for most of its run, and the 2025 edition released October 8, 2025 is the final one, because Panini's NFL and NFLPA licenses both ended March 31, 2026. This page covers the box, prices by year in August 2026, and which signature sets carry the product.

Box formats for Panini Black

Hobby Box

One pack, five cards: a rookie patch autograph, a second autograph, a memorabilia card, one base card and one parallel. That configuration has held for the entire run, which makes cross-year comparison unusually clean for a Panini product. The 2025 edition shipped at around $499 at distributor level and was trading at $500-$530 in August 2026, one of the tightest ranges on this page because it was recent enough that supply was still moving through normal channels.

Hobby Case

A case is twelve boxes. The short prints that define each year's chase, Vanta, White Night and ForceField among them, are seeded at case depth, as are the tightest parallels on the rookie patch autographs. Because the base checklist runs to 242 cards including parallels, cases are also the only realistic way to make progress on the set itself.

Panini Black football was hobby only. There is no retail equivalent and no FOTL, so there is exactly one price to track per year.

Recent years: prices and key rookies

YearHobby box (Aug 2026)ReleaseKey rookies
2025$500-$530October 8, 2025Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, Shedeur Sanders
2024$300-$715December 11, 2024Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Marvin Harrison Jr., Brock Bowers
2023$420-$445October 4, 2023C.J. Stroud, Bijan Robinson, Anthony Richardson, Jahmyr Gibbs
2022$400-$450October 26, 2022Kenny Pickett, Brock Purdy, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall

The 2022 and 2023 boxes have been stable for years, sitting in a $400 to $450 band that reflects a product with predictable contents and predictable print runs. 2024 is the exception and the range is wide because supply has been arriving in irregular lots: boxes have cleared around $300 from sellers moving inventory and pushed past $700 from shops holding for the Williams and Daniels class. Neither number is wrong, and neither is the market on its own. The 2025 edition is priced closest to its issue level because it is still recent, and the final-year label has not yet produced a premium.

The 2019 debut deserves a mention even though it is outside the recent window. It released September 11, 2019 and still trades in the $400 to $450 range, which is remarkable for a seven-year-old premium box and reflects a smaller first-year print.

Chase cards, parallels and hit rates

The rookie patch autograph is the guaranteed headline, and Panini Black stacks a deep signature checklist beneath it. Spotlight Signatures appears in horizontal and vertical versions, Midnight Signatures and Capstones cover the veteran content, Smoke Show Signatures and Night Lights Signatures rotated in during the later years, and Sizeable Signatures pairs autographs with jersey pieces. Memorabilia comes through Futuristic, Rookie Influx and Starlight Materials, which was introduced in 2022 and has been the most consistently interesting relic set in the product.

Parallels run through a named ladder, Royal, Sapphire, Citrine, Emerald, Ruby, Gold and Platinum, tightening as they go and finishing at one of one. The short-printed inserts, Vanta, White Night and ForceField, are the case-level chases and the cards most likely to make a case profitable. With three of the five cards guaranteed as hits, the outcome depends entirely on tier and player: a box with two base-numbered rookie signatures returns a fraction of its cost, and a box with a numbered Spotlight or a top-tier rookie patch autograph pays for several.

Is Panini Black football worth buying sealed?

Panini Black has always been a fair-value box in the sense that its price and its contents have moved together, which is more than can be said for some of Panini's premium line. It has never been a strong sealed investment, though. Seven years of pricing show a product that holds near its release level rather than appreciating, with the 2019 edition the closest thing to an exception and even that only on scarcity rather than growth.

The license expiry closes the run permanently, and the 2025 edition is genuinely the last Panini Black football box that will exist. That supports the line over time in the way a closed print run supports anything finite, but Black was printed in healthy quantities every year and the market has already had months to price the news. If you are buying to open, 2022 and 2023 give you the same three hits for the lowest cost. If you are buying to hold, 2024 at the low end of its range is the most interesting position on this page, precisely because the spread is so unsettled.

How to spot fakes and resealed boxes

A five-card box worth $400 or more is exactly the product a searcher wants to open and reseal, so inspect the wrap rather than the box art. Genuine boxes have shrink film tight to the corners with no slack or milkiness, a clean factory fold along the bottom seam and an intact tamper-evident seal underneath with no adhesive halo or gloss patch. Slight wrinkling or pinholes near the flap suggests a box that has been steamed.

Weighing is useless on a single-pack box. Loose Panini Black singles are cheap and plentiful, which makes card swapping practical for anyone willing to reseal, so require photographs of all sides of the box including the seam and seal before paying. Because prices climbed after the license news, expect the volume of resealed and misrepresented boxes to rise, and prefer shops and sellers with a track record in sealed premium football.

Where to buy Panini Black football sealed

Shops bought Black on allocation and many still hold back years at prices that undercut online listings, particularly for 2022 and 2023. Card shows are the better venue for the 2019 and 2020 editions, which appear online only occasionally and at asking prices that dealers will beat in person. On eBay, start with these searches:

Frequently asked questions

Is Panini Black football still made?

No. The 2025 edition, released October 8, 2025, was the seventh and final Panini Black football product. Panini's NFL and NFLPA licenses both ended March 31, 2026, and Topps holds the NFL license from April 2026 onward.

What comes in a Panini Black football hobby box?

One pack of five cards: a rookie patch autograph, an additional autograph, a memorabilia card, a base card and a parallel.

How much is a Panini Black football hobby box?

The 2025 box was the steadiest in August 2026, selling for $500-$530, 2023 for $420-$445 and 2022 for $400-$450. The 2024 box traded across an unusually wide $300-$715 range.

Is Panini Black the same as Prizm Black?

No. Panini Black is a five-card premium product built around rookie patch autographs. Prizm Black is a separate Prizm-branded release with twelve packs per box and a completely different structure and checklist.

What are the short prints in Panini Black football?

Vanta, White Night and ForceField are the recurring short-printed inserts, seeded at roughly case depth and among the cards most likely to make a case profitable.
