The hit density is genuinely appealing and the design has always been strong, but the math is unforgiving. Five hits sounds generous until you notice that most of them come from the bottom of the checklist, and the 2024 price increase pushed the box well past what the average contents support. That is exactly why the 2024 market has not settled.

For value, 2022 and 2023 are the better buys: similar contents, lower price, and rookie classes that at least produced a franchise quarterback in Stroud. As a hold, none of these years has an established record of appreciation, and Gold Standard's secondary market is too thin to rely on. The license expiry closes the run permanently, and the 2024 edition is the last one that clearly shipped, but a closed run on a low-liquidity premium product is a weak thesis on its own. How to spot fakes and resealed boxes

Single-pack premium boxes are the format most often searched and resealed, and Gold Standard's high per-box value makes it a target. Look for shrink wrap that is tight to all four corners with no puckering, a clean factory fold along the bottom seam, and an unbroken tamper seal beneath the film with no adhesive shine or gloss patch where a replacement sticker has been applied. A box that has been steamed open often shows faint wrinkling or pinholes near the flap.

Because the box is one pack, weighing tells you nothing. Loose Gold Standard singles are plentiful and cheap, which makes swapping a real risk on a box that costs several hundred dollars, so require photographs of every side of the box including the seam and seal. Buy from shops or sellers with a documented history of moving sealed premium football, and be especially careful with 2025-dated listings given the uncertainty around that year.
