About this show

The October Vernon Hills Card Expo runs Sunday, October 11, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM inside Hawthorn Mall. This is the north suburbs' monthly card fixture, and the mall setting continues to be its best feature: free parking, climate control, real restrooms, a food court and zero admission cost, all wrapped around six hours of dealer tables.

An October date lands the expo in the middle of the hobby's busiest stretch. Football and basketball product is arriving, hockey season is opening, and the baseball postseason is driving renewed interest in Cubs and White Sox material. Dealers know it and stock accordingly, so expect the fall dates to carry noticeably more current-season product than a summer expo.

The floor is a general mix with sports leading. Baseball, football, basketball and hockey run vintage through modern: Topps and Bowman vintage, junk-wax-era sets and boxes, current-year Panini and Topps inserts, numbered parallels and star rookies. Chicago team demand shapes what dealers bring — Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs and White Sox singles and team sets are always in the boxes, and Blackhawks material moves especially well at north-suburban shows once the season starts. Graded slabs from PSA, SGC and BGS sit in locked showcases. Raw digging is available in dime, quarter and dollar boxes for set builders. Trading card game vendors bring Pokemon most heavily, alongside Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh! and One Piece singles and sealed product. Around the edges, expect memorabilia, autographs, unopened wax, Funko Pops, comics and card supplies.

Admission to the expo is free — you are walking into a mall concourse — with no advance ticket, no VIP tier and no early-entry window. Hawthorn Mall is at 122 Hawthorn Center in Vernon Hills, just off Milwaukee Avenue (Route 21) and minutes from Route 60 and I-94. Parking is free and abundant at every entrance. If the expo's footprint is not obvious when you walk in, ask a mall employee which concourse it is using, since the layout shifts depending on active storefronts.

Who should come: families and casual collectors get the most from this format. If a younger collector runs out of patience after an hour, the food court and theater are in the same building — a genuine advantage over a hotel ballroom. Dollar and quarter boxes let kids buy without a budget. Set builders should bring want lists. Serious buyers should treat the expo as a hunting trip rather than a guaranteed score: it is a mid-sized room, and the sharp material moves inside the first ninety minutes.

Tips: be there at 9:00 AM. Vernon Hills dealers price to sell and the good raw vintage does not last. Bring cash in small bills, since mall shows generate high volumes of ten-and-under transactions. Carry penny sleeves and top loaders. If you are selling, arrive sorted and ready for real numbers — several regulars actively buy. Check the promoter's social channels the week of the show for the confirmed dealer count.
