SportStuff Cards & Collectibles is a Corpus Christi sports museum of vintage Rangers, deep wax shelves and antiques, run by an owner who loves talking the game.
SportStuff Cards & Collectibles on Waldron Road feels more like a small sports museum than a typical hobby shop. Antique athletic pieces, memorabilia and shelves of cards fill the room, and the owner, Drake, is known for spending time with each visitor talking about the game rather than just the price tag.
Vintage cards are the specialty. A traveling Texas Rangers fan described going in hunting for older Rangers and being astonished by the collection, and other shoppers use words like history and museum. Wax is another standout: more than one customer has said it has the most sealed product they have seen in a while, which gives you plenty of boxes and packs to pick from if you enjoy ripping. If you are chasing a specific player or a graded star, ask, because not everything is on display. The shop's website can help you preview what is in stock before a trip.
As with any dealer who handles older pieces, prices on high-end items depend heavily on condition and demand, and at least one visitor felt an asking price was steep. A smart approach is to bring a phone with sold-listing data, and respectfully negotiate on bigger pieces. For an unpressured visit, plan to ask about memorabilia and antique items as well; those are the pieces people tend to leave with unexpectedly.
SportStuff is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 PM, and Saturday from noon to 4 PM. It is closed on Sundays. Hours are short, so arriving early in the afternoon gives you the most time to browse. If you are a collector researching sports cards in Corpus Christi, make this one of your first stops.
