Fanatics Fest NYC Opens Today: The CGC Wagner Showcase and Every Day-One Exclusive Worth Chasing

Fanatics Fest New York is underway at the Javits Center, and CGC stole day one by unveiling a T206 Honus Wagner making its first public appearance in decades. Here is what to see, plus the Topps event exclusives dropping July 16-19.

The Doors Are Open at the Javits Center

Fanatics Fest New York is officially underway. The hobby's biggest consumer event of the summer runs July 16-19 at the Javits Center, and day one arrived with a headline nobody saw coming even a week ago: a 1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner making its first public appearance in decades.

The CGC Grail Showcase

CGC is using its booth (#137) to stage what amounts to a pop-up museum of the hobby's most valuable cardboard. The centerpiece is the T206 Wagner, the card that has anchored every conversation about high-end collecting for a century. It has not been shown publicly in decades, and CGC unveiled it specifically for this event.

The Wagner is not standing alone. The showcase also features:

  • A signed 1979-80 Topps #18 Wayne Gretzky rookie graded CGC Gem Mint 10 with an Auto 10 β€” a combination of grade and autograph quality that is essentially unrepeatable.
  • A 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle Type 1 graded CGC 8, the card that defined the postwar hobby.

Three cards, three eras, one booth. If you are attending and you only have time for one detour, this is it.

Day-One Exclusives Worth Chasing

Beyond the display cases, today is also a release day. Topps timed two products to the opening bell: the 2026 Topps Cactus Jack collaboration returns to the show floor, and Fanatics Fest exclusive Topps Series 2 hobby boxes go on sale with event-only inserts available July 16-19 only. Both are in-person purchases, which is exactly the kind of scarcity that fuels a secondary market before the weekend is over. Last year's event exclusives were reselling online before the show closed, and there is no reason to expect this year to behave differently.

What It Means If You Are Not in New York

Event exclusives hit eBay fast, usually at a steep opening premium that cools within two to three weeks. If you want the Fanatics Fest Series 2 inserts, patience has historically been rewarded. The Wagner showcase, on the other hand, is a see-it-now proposition β€” and a reminder that CGC is spending aggressively to position itself as a serious high-end alternative in the grading wars. Your local card shop will be talking about this weekend for a while; if you are looking for a shop to rip your show pickups with, our directory can point you to stores near you.
