A 95 Dollar Break Produced a Wembanyama 1-of-1, and a Napa Shop Box Hid a 250,000 Dollar Ronaldo
Two collectors pulled 1-of-1 cards this week, a Wembanyama Superfractor and a Ronaldo World Cup Gold Power. Both are now headed to auction.
Two Big Pulls from Ordinary Boxes
Two stories from this week show how a single pack can change a collector's year. One involves a Victor Wembanyama Superfractor 1-of-1 and the other a Cristiano Ronaldo World Cup 1-of-1.
The $95 Wembanyama Break
A Pennsylvania collector spent $95 on a 2025 Topps Chrome Update basketball break and pulled a Victor Wembanyama Superfractor 1-of-1. After PSA authentication, the card was consigned to Goldin and reached $34,000 on the first day. The auction closes October 17, and the collector plans to donate the proceeds to charity.
The Napa Shop Ronaldo
A Northern California collector pulled a 2026 Panini Prizm FIFA World Cup Cristiano Ronaldo Gold Power 1/1 from a box bought at a Napa shop. It graded a PSA Gem Mint 10 and is now in SCP Auctions' Fall Premier Auction, which opens October 29, with an estimate of $250,000 or more.
What These Stories Show
- Odds are long. A 1-of-1 is a rare hit, and most boxes will not produce one. Buy for enjoyment, not as a lottery ticket.
- Grading and authentication matter. Both cards went through PSA before heading to auction.
- Consignment timing matters. Auctions run for weeks, and final prices can move a lot from day one.
- Shops are where pulls happen. Both stories start with a box bought or broken in a normal shopping setting.
If You Pull Something Big
Keep the card protected in a sleeve and top loader, avoid touching the surface, and get a second opinion on value before choosing between grading, selling raw or consigning.
