North Fresno crossover shop blending vintage comic boxes with sports cards, Pokemon, and a chase-heavy slab case behind the counter.
Bird Dog Cards and Comix opened as a passion-project crossover between comics and trading cards, and the Bullard Avenue storefront leans into both sides equally. Long boxes of back-issue comics line one wall, the opposite side holds card cases and sealed wax, and the back counter rotates a small but premium slab inventory.
The card mix is genuinely diverse. Sports cards anchor the sealed wax — Topps Chrome, Bowman, Panini Prizm, Donruss — with vintage Topps baseball and football tucked into binders. Pokemon, Magic, and Yu-Gi-Oh singles are organized in dedicated sections, and the owners keep current with new releases without losing the back-catalog stock that older collectors want.
The shop's niche is the slabs. PSA, SGC, and CGC holders fill the back-counter case, with rotating high-end content — vintage rookies, low-pop modern parallels, and the occasional autographed slab. Prices are negotiable on stacks, and the owners will quote PSA submission turnarounds and pop reports for collectors planning a grading run.
Hours are evening-heavy on weekdays — 2pm to 8:30pm Monday through Friday — with Saturdays open at noon and Sundays running shorter. That makes Bird Dog one of the easier Fresno card shop options for after-work browsing. The strip plaza off Bullard has plenty of parking. Buy/sell/trade is welcomed across both cards and comics, and the owners tend to spend real time talking through what's in your collection.
