Tarzana's family-run sports card shop since 1981, mixing vintage-to-modern cards, signed memorabilia, Pokemon and custom jersey framing on Ventura.
Valley Sports Cards has been on Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana since 1981, which makes it one of the longest-running card shops in the San Fernando Valley. The shop calls itself a family-friendly, one-stop hobby shop, and the floor backs that up: sports cards, Pokemon, sealed boxes, card supplies, autographed memorabilia and a full custom framing counter.
Sports cards are the core. Reviewers describe a range from vintage to new and staff who will dig for a specific player. One collector remembers Lona finding a 90s NBA player he'd followed for years. The memorabilia side includes authenticated pieces, such as a JSA-certified Cal Ripken Jr. baseball one customer bought for his father. Bobbleheads and signed items are on display, though one reviewer felt memorabilia prices ran higher than online.
Families make up a big part of the regulars. One visitor described an afternoon with her father browsing the large inventory, and others note staff willing to talk sports history at length. If something isn't in stock, the shop's stated policy is to help track it down, which helps with gifts and specific player requests.
Picture framing is its own specialty. The shop does conservation framing and jersey framing, so you can buy a signed jersey and leave it to be framed in the same visit. Pokemon cards are stocked as well, and staff are known for honest assessments. One visitor's friend learned that most of his Pokemon cards were fake, and the reviewer said the news was delivered without any rudeness.
Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11AM to 7PM and Sunday 11AM to 4PM, and the shop is closed Monday. The store is on Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana, with parking along the boulevard and side streets.
