About This Event

The Amazing Discoveries Tucson Pokémon League Challenge takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026 for the monthly sanctioned Play! Pokémon competitive Trading Card Game event at one of Tucson's most active Pokémon TCG community hubs. Hosted at the Amazing Discoveries Tucson store, this weekend League Challenge event packs the tournament floor with Pokémon TCG players running through an officially sanctioned Wizards of the Coast / Play! Pokémon-organized League Challenge — and consistently pulls competitive and casual Pokémon players driving in from Tucson, Marana, Oro Valley, Vail, Sahuarita, Catalina Foothills, Casas Adobes, Tanque Verde, and beyond. Late-May timing puts the event in the heart of the 2025–2026 Play! Pokémon competitive season, with players actively chasing Championship Points toward Pokémon Worlds qualification — a Tucson League Challenge is one of the most efficient ways for Arizona players to bank points without traveling to a Regionals.

The Pokémon League Challenge format is sanctioned Standard format — meaning all currently legal Sword & Shield-era, Scarlet & Violet-era, and current rotation cards permitted under the official Play! Pokémon Standard ruleset. Players bring sixty-card decks in three age divisions: Junior (born 2014 or later), Senior (born 2010–2013), and Masters (born 2009 or earlier). Each division runs swiss rounds — typically three to four rounds depending on attendance — with each round at fifty minutes plus a three-turn extension. Top finishers in each division earn Championship Points toward the Play! Pokémon season standings and earn League Challenge promo packs and prize-pool product including booster packs, sleeves, and the limited League Challenge promo card.

Player check-in opens at approximately 11:00 AM MST with the first round starting at 12:00 PM MST. A typical League Challenge wraps by 5:00 PM MST. Entry fee is typically $10 to $15, with all entry-fee proceeds going directly into the prize-support pool. Walk-in registration is welcome but advance registration through the store's calendar or the Play! Pokémon player portal is strongly recommended — League Challenge events in Tucson often hit capacity. All players must have an active Play! Pokémon Player ID to participate; new players can create a free Player ID on the Pokémon Trainer Club website on the day-of.

The Amazing Discoveries Tucson retail floor is open for browsing, singles purchases, deck-building, and supplies the entire day. The store carries Pokémon singles, sealed product, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece TCG, Disney Lorcana, and tabletop accessories. The store is climate-controlled, ADA-accessible, and laid out with multiple long tournament tables. Free parking is plentiful in the on-site retail-plaza lot.

This event fits competitive Pokémon TCG players chasing Championship Points, casual league-night regulars looking to test new decks in a sanctioned environment, parents and kids playing in the Junior and Senior divisions, deck-builders looking to playtest the latest Scarlet & Violet expansion, and first-timers attending a sanctioned event for the very first time. For the best experience, arrive at 11:00 AM check-in sharp with your sixty-card decklist already filled out on paper, bring fully-sleeved cards in a deck box, pack extra sleeves and damage counters and a play mat, and bring cash plus Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal backups for between-round singles. Contact the store via amazingmtg.com or call ahead to confirm the May 23 event slot and entry fee.
