Diamond in the Ruff opens its October run at the Sun City West Foundation building on Sunday, October 11, 2026. October is the sweet spot for this series. The snowbird population is returning to the northwest Valley, which means new collections coming out of storage and onto tables, and the weather is finally pleasant enough that Sunday afternoon attendance climbs noticeably over the summer dates.
The show is sports-card-driven. Baseball tables run deepest, with vintage Topps and Bowman, 1950s and 1960s stars, heavy 1970s and 1980s inventory for set builders, team lots, and modern MLB rookies with parallels and autographs. With the NFL season in full swing and the NBA just getting started, football and basketball tables see the most traffic in October, offering rookie patch autographs, Prizm and Select parallels and vintage rookies. Hockey, UFC, boxing and soccer each maintain real table presence. Graded slabs from PSA, SGC and BGS appear throughout, and several dealers specialize in raw vintage that has never been submitted, which is where the genuine value hunting happens at this show. Pokemon singles and sealed product cover the trading card game side. Memorabilia, signed baseballs and photos, vintage programs and ticket stubs, comics and collectible figures fill out the room.
Hours are 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, one afternoon window. Admission is free with no early-access tier and nothing to purchase in advance. Children are welcome accompanied by an adult, and the dime and quarter boxes under most tables give kids something to dig through while the adults negotiate.
The venue is the Webb and Powell Rooms in the SCW Foundation building at 14465 W RH Johnson Blvd, inside the R.H. Johnson recreation complex just off Grand Avenue. Parking is free and wraps the building, and the interior is fully air-conditioned with level access and wide aisles between tables. The two connected rooms give this show more floor space than most community-center events, so it never feels cramped even at peak attendance.
This show is well suited to vintage hunters, set builders and anyone who prefers browsing at a human pace. Families appreciate the free admission and the absence of any hard sell. Newcomers get one of the friendlier dealer bases in the Valley, happy to walk through grading, population reports and raw-versus-slabbed pricing. Dealers should pay attention to the seasonal factor: October through March is when Sun City West produces the most walk-in collections, and first look often happens right here.
Tips for the afternoon: arrive at the 1:00 PM open, since the freshest material moves early. Bring cash, which consistently earns the best price at a free-entry show. Keep a want list with ceiling prices in your pocket so you are not guessing, and carry penny sleeves and top loaders for raw pickups. A loupe or bright phone light is worth having if you are inspecting vintage centering and corners. Tell dealers what you collect, because trades and want-list callbacks are a real part of how this series works.
