SCG CON makes its San Diego debut February 5 through 7, 2027, bringing Star City Games' touring trading card game convention to the San Diego Convention Center for three full days of competitive play, open gaming, vendors, and special guests. Billed as the world's premier trading card games convention, SCG CON is one of the largest organized-play events in North America, and its arrival on the bayfront gives Southern California players a major-tournament weekend without the trip to Las Vegas or Los Angeles.
Magic: The Gathering is the centerpiece. SCG CON San Diego is set to host a United States Regional Championship with a 100,000-dollar prize pool, 32 Pro Tour invitations, and two invitations to the Magic World Championship, alongside a full slate of Standard, Modern, Pioneer, Legacy, and Commander events with prize walls and side-event schedules running all weekend. SCG CON also features Flesh and Blood, Riftbound, Sorcery: Contested Realm, Wonders of the First, and other games on its supported lineup, with organized play and learn-to-play areas for each. A large vendor hall sells singles, sealed product, accessories, and collectibles, and artists and content creators typically appear for signings and meet-and-greets. Sports card and Pokemon collectors will find limited inventory; this is a TCG player's convention first.
Hall hours run Friday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Regional Championship and main events run on a fixed schedule, so check the event page for registration deadlines and start times.
Admission to SCG CON is free. Entry fees apply to individual tournaments and some premium events, with registration handled online through Star City Games in advance and on site. Register early for the Regional Championship, as spots are capped and sell out.
The San Diego Convention Center is located at 111 West Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101, on the downtown waterfront next to the Gaslamp Quarter. Parking is available in the convention center garage and surrounding downtown lots, with rates that vary by day; the Gaslamp Quarter and Convention Center trolley stations put the venue on the Green and Blue lines, which is the easiest option. Hotels, restaurants, and Seaport Village are all within walking distance.
SCG CON suits competitive Magic players chasing invites, Commander players who want three days of pods, Flesh and Blood and Riftbound communities, and collectors who want a large vendor hall. Families are welcome, and free entry makes it easy for spectators and newcomers to explore.
To make the most of it, preregister for main events, bring a decklist and sleeves, arrive early on Saturday for the biggest tournaments, and carry a want list for the vendor hall. Bring cash and trade binders; vendor buylists are usually active all weekend.
