Magnetic One-Touch Holders: Sizes, UV Claims & When to Use One

Every one-touch point size and 2026 price, what the UV protection claims actually say, and the value threshold where a $4 holder beats a $0.24 toploader.

A one-touch holder costs about sixteen times what a toploader costs, and for the right card it's worth every cent. Here's what the point sizes mean, what the UV claims actually say, and the decision rule for when a card has earned one.

What a one-touch is

A two-piece rigid acrylic holder with slide-in hinges and a magnetic closure. The card sits recessed so nothing touches its edges, and the magnet lets you open and reseal it without tools. That last part is the whole innovation: the previous generation of display holders were screw-downs, which required a screwdriver and were notorious for cracking cards when overtightened.

Ultra Pro dominates this category. BCW makes them too, in fewer sizes.

Sizes and prices

One-touch point sizes work the same way as toploaders โ€” the number is the interior opening in thousandths of an inch. Ultra Pro direct pricing, August 2026:

Size Single Fits
23pt$3.99Thin TCG cards
35pt$3.99Standard base cards — the default
75pt$3.99Thick chrome, light relics
100pt$3.99Standard memorabilia
130pt$3.99Patch cards
180pt$4.99Jumbo patch
260pt$5.99Booklets

Five-packs run roughly $14.99–$15.99 for the common sizes, and black-border variants carry a small premium. One note: Ultra Pro's own site currently shows inconsistent pricing on the 35pt five-pack between its collection page and its product page, so check the cart total before assuming a figure.

The UV protection claim, stated accurately

This is worth getting right because it's the main reason people pay for one-touches.

Ultra Pro's current product copy says the holders "use UV-blocking additives to protect your card from harmful UV-rays." No percentage figure appears on the product pages.

The widely-circulated numbers โ€” 99% blocking at 358, 369 and 374 nm, and 86% at 383 nm, which Ultra Pro reportedly characterized as comparable to applying SPF 65 sunscreen โ€” come from a Cardboard Connection guide sourcing Ultra Pro, not from Ultra Pro's current site. We'd cite them as attributed rather than as a manufacturer spec.

What's safe to say: one-touches include UV-blocking additives; toploaders make no UV claim at all. If a card is going to sit in a display case under any light, that difference is the point of the product. It is not a substitute for keeping cards out of direct light โ€” light damage is cumulative and irreversible regardless of holder.

One-touch vs toploader: the decision

One-touch Toploader
Cost each$3.99–$5.99~$0.24
UV additivesYesNo
Needs a penny sleeveNo (card sits recessed)Yes
Reusable / resealableYes, magneticNeeds tape or a team bag
Accepted for PSA submissionNoNo

Note the last row. Neither is accepted for a PSA submission โ€” that requires a semi-rigid. See toploaders vs semi-rigids.

The rule of thumb: a one-touch is worth it when the holder costs less than about 2% of the card's value, or when the card is going on display. For a $40 card, a $4 holder is 10% โ€” use a toploader. For a $500 card, it's 0.8% โ€” use the one-touch.

Practical notes

Don't sleeve a card inside a one-touch unless the fit clearly allows it. The recess is dimensioned for a bare card, and forcing a sleeved card in can bow the halves apart.

The magnets are strong. Keep one-touches away from anything magnetically sensitive, and don't stack them in a way that lets them snap together against card edges.

They don't fit standard row boxes. BCW is explicit that its cardboard Monster Box is not intended for toploaders or one-touch holders. You need a wide-row box or a plastic bin โ€” see storage boxes.
