Boar's Hat Gaming

Elgin TCG hangout with Magic singles, Pokemon, Lorcana and One Piece, plus organized play events every open day and plenty of tables for Commander pods.

Boar's Hat Gaming is built around playing cards, not just buying them. The shop moved into a newer space on Manor Court that reviewers describe as bright and refreshing, with lots of table space, and Commander groups report settling in as regulars. Expect a relaxed, inclusive room where staff will take time to walk you through a purchase.

Magic: The Gathering is the anchor, with reviewers pointing to a strong selection of single cards alongside sealed product. The shelves also cover Pokemon, Lorcana, One Piece, Flesh and Blood and Yu-Gi-Oh!, so most modern TCG players will find their game represented. Beyond cards, the store stocks tabletop gaming supplies for players who want dice, sleeves and the rest of the kit.

The standout is organized play. The shop says it hosts events every day it is open, running Magic, Pokemon, Weiss Schwarz, Universus, Shadowverse Evolved and Lorcana nights. That makes it a practical base for anyone looking for regular competitive or casual games in the area, and a good place to meet a local playgroup. If you are after Pokemon cards Elgin players actually sit down and battle with, this is the spot.

Hours skew late, which suits after-work and after-school play: the doors open at 2PM Monday through Friday and stay open until 10PM, while Saturday runs noon to 8PM. The store is closed on Sunday. Evenings are when events fill the tables, so drop in mid-afternoon if you want a quiet look through the singles binders, or check the events page before heading over for a tournament.

One note for sellers: a recent reviewer felt the buy offers on graded and high-end cards were low, so shop around if you are selling valuable pieces. The store is at 1341 Manor Ct, Elgin, IL 60123, and you can reach it at 224-760-7147.
