When the longtime manager of New Bedford's New England Comics location bought the store outright in 2021, he kept the shelves the neighborhood already loved and renamed the place Twilight Comics. Half a decade later, it's still the Acushnet Avenue fixture collectors default to when they need a Pokemon card shop in New Bedford that also happens to sell comics.

The card side of the business has grown well past its comic-shop roots. Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering take up the bulk of the singles wall, but browsers will also find Yu-Gi-Oh!, Digimon, One Piece TCG, and Lorcana in steady rotation, plus a locked case of graded slabs for anyone chasing a specific pull. Buy, sell, and trade counters run all week, and the shop takes consignments from collectors looking to move a larger set without listing it online themselves.

Hours run Wednesday through Sunday, with the shop closed Monday and Tuesday to restock and sort new arrivals. Friday's the long night, open until 10 p.m., and tends to double as informal tournament night for whichever card game currently has momentum in the store's play space. Saturday afternoons draw the heaviest foot traffic from families browsing new Pokemon product alongside longtime comic subscribers picking up their pull lists.

What separates Twilight Comics from a pure card shop is that crossover crowd — collectors who came in for a booster box and leave having also flipped through a longbox of back issues. The shop leans into that identity rather than fighting it, keeping new comics, graphic novels, and card singles stocked side by side rather than in separate sections.

For New Bedford trading card shoppers, the practical upside is a bigger, more varied singles selection than a card-only shop this size could usually support, backed by a staff that's been running the same storefront, under one name or another, for well over a decade.
