Spandex City Comics & X-tra Ball has built its name in Charlotte primarily on comics, but the Bellhaven Boulevard store has grown into a legitimate trading card destination too, thanks in large part to a standing Pokemon TCG league that runs out of the shop's play space. Long boxes of back-issue comics still dominate one side of the store, while the other holds sealed Pokemon product, singles, and supplies for players building a competitive deck.

The shop's official status as a Pokemon league venue means it gets early access to certain product and promo cards tied to organized play, which is part of why local players treat it as a hub rather than just another comic shop that happens to sell cards. Staff run league nights on a regular schedule and keep the play tables active well past the browsing crowd's usual hours.

Beyond Pokemon, the shop stocks a broader mix of pop culture collectibles, action figures, and graphic novels, which gives it a different feel from a dedicated card shop; customers who wander in for comics often leave having also picked up a booster pack, and vice versa. Spandex City is closed Mondays and opens at noon the rest of the week, staying open until 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and trimming hours slightly on weekends. The Bellhaven Boulevard location sits on the northwest side of Charlotte with straightforward parking, an easy stop for collectors in that part of the city who don't want to drive across town for cards.
