Hobby Box
Every Origins hobby box is a single seven-card pack, twelve boxes to a case. In licensed seasons the box averaged one rookie autograph plus one additional hit, two base parallels and an insert. The 2025-26 configuration is more generous on paper, averaging three hits alongside three parallels and two inserts, which reflects a much lower price point. Distributor pricing ran $249.95 for 2024-25 and dropped to roughly $150 for 2025-26.
FOTL (First Off The Line)
FOTL boxes sell direct from Panini a week or so before wide release and swap one of the standard hits for a FOTL-exclusive autograph, plus a FOTL-only base parallel. The numbering has moved over the years, running to /40 or /8 in 2022-23 and /18 or less in 2024-25, with Purple, Green, Swirl and similar FOTL-only colors. FOTL boxes routinely trade at a large premium over hobby from the same season and hold that gap because the parallels cannot be produced any other way.
H2 Hybrid Box
The H2, introduced for 2022-23, is a six-pack, six-card retail-style box at $114.95 that carries no guaranteed autograph but delivers base parallels and a stack of inserts and insert parallels. It exists so that shops have something under $150 to sell alongside a $250 hobby box. It is the cheapest way to chase the season's inserts and the worst way to chase its signatures.
Hobby Case
Twelve boxes to a case. Because Origins hits are box-level rather than case-level, cases trade close to twelve times the box price and offer little structural advantage beyond volume; the 2025-26 case has been listed around $2,100.

The two seasons collectors treat as long-term holds are 2019-20 and 2020-21, and the reason is print run rather than rookie class alone: the debut Origins release was small, and the LaMelo and Edwards year is the one where FOTL boxes still clear four figures. The 2023-24 Wembanyama season is the natural third. The 2025-26 edition is a different animal, priced at a third of the licensed boxes because the cards carry no team marks, and there is no track record yet for how unlicensed Origins holds.
Chase cards, parallels and hit rates
The base parallel ladder is the backbone: Red, Blue #/99, Orange #/75, White or Pink #/60, Neon #/49, Turquoise #/25, Gold #/10, Green #/5 and Black 1/1, with Maroon, Tessellated and Opal added in later seasons and FOTL-only colors sitting between the tiers. Two or three of these fall per box, which is why Origins boxes feel productive even when the hits are ordinary.
Insert names have become part of the brand identity: the animal-eye family of Tiger Eyes, Snake Eyes and, new for 2025-26, Panther Eyes, alongside Originals, On the Horizon and a rare Gala subset. On the signed side, the draw is on-card rookie autographs, Rookie Jersey Autographs and booklet cards, joined in 2025-26 by Blood Moon, Dead of Night and Eclipse Signatures. Panini does not publish per-box odds for the individual autograph sets.
Is Panini Origins worth buying sealed?
Origins is honest about what it is. You pay for two or three hits and you get two or three hits; there is no scenario where a box produces value through base cards. That makes the maths simple and usually unfavourable, because the average pair of hits from a $400 licensed box is worth well under $400. Where Origins has worked as a sealed hold is at the top of the print-run curve: the 2019-20 and 2020-21 boxes have roughly doubled from release. The unlicensed 2025-26 edition is cheap enough that the downside is small, but it is speculative, and airbrushed cards of NBA veterans have no established resale history. If you want the safest Origins position, buy licensed seasons with a franchise rookie and leave them sealed.
How to spot fakes and resealed boxes
A seven-card Origins box is among the easiest sealed products in basketball to tamper with, because there is one pack inside and nothing to feel through the wrap. Insist on photographs of the tamper seal and all four corners of the shrink before paying. Genuine boxes have a tight machine wrap with a clean bottom fold; a hand-wrapped box shows loose corners and an off-centre seam. FOTL boxes carry printed FOTL branding, so verify the artwork rather than the listing title, since FOTL and hobby are frequently mixed up on eBay.
Where to buy Panini Origins sealed
Shops that carry Panini through a distributor usually have current Origins at or near the distributor price, which beats eBay on the newest season; check the card shop directory for stores near you.
