Booster Box
The 36-pack box shows Mega Charizard and shipped at roughly $144 MSRP; it was widely available at $90–$100 through 2018. Sealed boxes trade at $2,200–$2,700 in August 2026 with roughly one sale a day, which makes Evolutions the most liquid XY box by a wide margin. Because so much was printed, this is also the XY box with the most reliable price data and the one most often bought by people who intend to open it.
Elite Trainer Boxes
Evolutions had two ETBs: a red Mega Charizard Y version and a blue Mega Blastoise version, each with eight packs, sleeves, dice, a coin, energy cards, a player's guide and the storage box. The Charizard ETB is the one collectors want and sells for $650–$1,400 sealed, with recent sales clustering around $750–$900 and an outlier above $1,400. The Blastoise ETB typically runs $450–$800. Both trade regularly.
Booster Packs and Blisters
Ungraded sealed packs sell for $50–$80 each with roughly a sale a day, and pack art (Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur or Mewtwo) matters less than in other XY sets because supply is deep. Three-pack blisters with a coin and promo run $160–$250 and single-pack checklane blisters $55–$90. Evolutions blisters were a Target and Walmart staple for two years, so plenty survive.
Theme Decks
Mewtwo Mayhem and Pikachu Power were the two 60-card theme decks, each a nostalgic riff on the original Base Set decks with a holo Mewtwo or Pikachu on the box. They contain no booster packs and trade sealed at roughly $60–$130, with the Pikachu Power deck slightly ahead.
Prerelease Kit
Tournament-only in October 2016 with a stamped promo. Sealed kits show up a few times a year and sell for $120–$250.
Chase cards and pull rates
Charizard holo (11/108) is the card everyone opens Evolutions for. It is a plain rare holo, not a full art, and it sells for $60–$150 raw and $400–$700 in PSA 10, with the reverse holo version carrying a premium. M Charizard EX full art (101/108) runs $80–$150 raw and $600–$700 in PSA 10, and Charizard EX (12/108) is a $40–$80 card. The other Base Set holos (Blastoise 2/108, Venusaur 1/108, Machamp 59/108, Alakazam, Chansey) are $10–$50 raw but grade into meaningful money. The full art Mega EX cards for Blastoise, Venusaur and Mewtwo and the five secret rares (109–113) round out the hits.
Full art EX cards are commonly reported at roughly one to two per box, and the Charizard holo at roughly one per two to three boxes. The set is known for poor centering and print lines, so PSA 10 copies of any holo are much scarcer than raw supply suggests, which is where most of the graded value comes from.
Is XY Evolutions worth buying sealed?
Evolutions is the outlier of the XY era. It was printed far more heavily than any other XY set and stayed in print through 2018, so sealed supply is deep and the price per box is a fraction of Flashfire or Roaring Skies even though it is the set with the most Charizard demand. That cuts both ways. Liquidity is excellent and prices have compounded steadily, from $90 at retail to $600 in 2021 to $2,400 today, but the deep supply means Evolutions will always be the XY box that sellers reach for first, which caps how fast it can run. It is the best XY box for someone who wants to open packs, and a reasonable hold for someone who wants Base Set nostalgia exposure without vintage prices. There is no reprint risk for the set; the risk is that later Base Set homages (151, Celebrations) keep splitting the nostalgia market.
How to spot fakes and resealed products
Evolutions has been resealed more than any other XY set for the simple reason that there are more boxes to reseal and the buyers are less experienced. Genuine late-2016 boxes have a thin shrink wrap with a single vertical back seam and small vent holes, and the wrap is tight enough that the lid cannot open. A box with a horizontal seam, a heavy glossy wrap, or a lid that lifts is a rewrap. Weighed packs are a known problem: full art EX cards were heavy enough to sort, and there is a well-documented history of Evolutions boxes being opened, weighed, restocked with light packs and rewrapped. Packs from a resealed box all look genuine, so judge the box, not the packs. For the ETBs, the printed Pokémon wrap should be present with a single seam, the inner tray should be spotless, and the eight packs should share identical crimp lines. Counterfeit Evolutions packs exist in the foreign-market reprint sense; genuine packs have a crisp, evenly textured foil with the Pokémon logo printed sharply and a clean, straight crimp.
