The Dojo

Walk past the shoji doors at the back of The Dojo and the play space opens onto tatami-inspired carpet with a full set of samurai armor standing against the wall. Owners Jesse and Gwen Pruit modeled the room on the training-program scene from The Matrix, and the theme carries through the front half of the store too, where vertical LED-lit display walls hold singles instead of the usual horizontal counter case.

The shop opened in 2025 inside the Outlets of Little Rock, spun off from the family's first business, Otaku Takeout, directly across the hall. Card players had taken over Otaku Takeout's ramen tables to the point that staff were dragging out folding chairs, so the Pruits gave the games their own building. Pokemon, Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh! form the core inventory, but the real reason to make the drive is the shelf of titles almost nobody else in Arkansas stocks: Weiss Schwarz, Grand Archive, Union Arena, One Piece, Flesh and Blood, Lorcana and Riftbound.

Pricing here works on a stated transparency model. Every item is labeled either MSRP, meaning it came in through wholesale and sells at suggested retail, or Adjusted, meaning it was acquired on the secondary market and priced to match. The Pruits also hold their posted price when a market spikes — they bought Final Fantasy collector boxes at $700 and kept them at $800 while the wider market pushed toward $1,000.

The event calendar is dense and mostly free. Recent and upcoming programming includes Magic prereleases, Commander League run in four-week seasons, Standard Showdown, Two-Headed Giant Commander and Trade Day; Pokemon TCG League Play, prereleases and Trade Day; Flesh and Blood Armory Blitz; Grand Archive season play; Union Arena and One Piece store tournaments; casual Lorcana; Beyblade X rip-and-play nights; Smash Bros. tournaments; and a five-day D&D summer camp. Seasonal Sapporo Winter and Fall Tsukimi festivals add anime trivia and cosplay contests.

Doors open at 11AM daily. Friday and Saturday run late until 10PM, which is when the tournament floor is fullest; Sunday closes at 7PM and Monday through Thursday at 8PM. Because this is a mall suite, parking is easy and there is food within walking distance. Check the store's published monthly calendar before a specific event — the schedule rotates with set releases rather than repeating a fixed weekly grid.
