The 12 Most Valuable Pokemon Cards Ever Sold
A Pikachu is now the most expensive trading card ever sold in any category. From the $16.4 million Illustrator to trophy Pikachus and the record-setting 1st Edition Charizard, here are the twelve most valuable verified Pokemon card sales.
Pokemon's Million-Dollar Tier Keeps Growing
For years the sports card world treated Pokemon as the little sibling. Then a Pikachu became the most expensive trading card ever sold, in any category, ever. Here are the twelve most valuable verified Pokemon card sales as of mid-2026 - a list that has been rewritten three times in the last eighteen months.
1. Pikachu Illustrator, PSA 10 - $16,492,000 (February 2026)
The all-time record for any trading card. Logan Paul's PSA 10 Illustrator - the only 10 among the 39 known copies of the 1998 illustration-contest prize card - sold at Goldin after a 42-day auction with 97 bids. Paul had acquired it for $5.275 million in 2021, meaning the card roughly tripled in five years.
2. Pikachu Illustrator, PSA 10 - $5,275,000 (July 2021)
The same physical card, when Paul acquired it in a famous cash-plus-trade deal: $4 million cash plus a PSA 9 Illustrator valued at $1.275 million. It earned a Guinness World Record at the time.
3. 1998 Kamex Mega Battle Bronze Trophy Pikachu "No. 3 Trainer", PSA 10 - $1,769,000 (May 2026)
The record for any trophy Pikachu sold publicly, set at Goldin's Spring TCG Elite auction. Only ten copies of this Japanese tournament prize exist, and the next-best graded example is a PSA 8.
4. Pikachu Illustrator, PSA 9 - $1,275,000 (July 2021)
The PSA 9 that served as trade currency in the Logan Paul deal - itself a seven-figure card.
5. 1999 Base Set 1st Edition Charizard, PSA 10 - $550,000 (December 2025)
The people's grail. The card was a $20,000 pickup before 2020, boomed past $300,000 in 2021, corrected for three years - and then set a new all-time record at Heritage in December 2025. The most famous Pokemon card in the world is at its all-time high.
6. 1997 Gold Trophy Pikachu "No. 1 Trainer", PSA 9 - $450,000 (December 2025)
The first-place prize from the 1997 Lizardon Mega Battle in Japan. You may have seen claims of a $3 million sale for one of these - we could not verify that figure anywhere reputable, so this Heritage sale stands as the verified record.
7. 1998 Silver Trophy Pikachu "No. 2 Trainer", PSA 10 - $444,000 (September 2023)
8. 1999 Base Set 1st Edition Charizard, PSA 10 - $420,000 (March 2022)
The previous record for the card, for scale on how fast the top end moved in 2025.
9. 1998 Galaxy Star Blastoise Presentation Prototype, CGC 8.5 - $360,000 (January 2021)
A Wizards of the Coast presentation prototype - one of two known, and the only one with a printed back. Arguably the strangest card on this list: it predates the English game itself.
10. 1997 Bronze Trophy Pikachu, PSA 10 - $324,000 (April 2023)
11. 2017 Tsunekazu Ishihara GX Promo (signed), PSA 10 - $247,230 (April 2021)
A card made to celebrate the Pokemon Company president's 60th birthday, depicting Ishihara himself - this copy signed by the man on the card.
12. 2006 EX Dragon Frontiers Mew Gold Star, PSA 10 - $192,000 (July 2026)
The newest entry, and maybe the most telling: it sold for $86,620 in April 2026 and $192,000 three months later. The Gold Star market broke its ceiling this summer, and this list's floor is rising fast.
Three of these twelve sales happened in 2026. Vintage Pokemon is not cooling off - it is consolidating into the same blue-chip tier as vintage Mantle and Jordan.
The best part of Pokemon collecting is that the pipeline still runs through retail shelves and local shops. Whether you are hunting modern Mega Evolution chase cards or your first vintage holo, our directory will point you to a Pokemon-friendly shop near you.
