Magic: The Gathering Teases a 2027 Universes Beyond Reveal at New York Comic Con on October 9
Wizards of the Coast has a Magic panel at New York Comic Con on October 9, and fans expect a 2027 Universes Beyond set announcement. Here is what is confirmed and what is still rumor.
Magic: The Gathering Is Bringing a Secret Panel to New York Comic Con
Wizards of the Coast has a Magic: The Gathering panel at New York Comic Con on October 9, 2026, from 7:45 to 8:45 PM Eastern, and fans are expecting the reveal of a 2027 Universes Beyond set. The convention listing teases "Magic: The Gathering, a universe beyond our own and some people who know things they're currently not allowed to talk about."
What We Know and What We Do Not
- Known: the date, time and venue of the panel, and that it is Magic-focused with a Universes Beyond tease.
- Not confirmed: the name of the set, its release date and its franchise. Speculation online ranges widely, from Hamilton to Marvel.
- One clue: Hasbro's CEO has said 2027 Universes Beyond sets should be more "fantasy adjacent" rather than a return to New York-specific themes.
Why Local Players Should Care
Universes Beyond sets tend to bring in lapsed players and fans of the licensed property, which means busier prereleases and more questions at the counter. If you run or frequent a game store, an early reveal gives you time to plan prerelease capacity and preorders. Treat any leak before October 9 as rumor until Wizards confirms it.
What to Do Before the Panel
- Check whether your shop plans a watch party or Friday Night Magic around the reveal.
- Do not preorder based on speculation. Wait for official product details and pricing.
- Follow the official Wizards channels for the announcement.
