Reality Fracture Is Magic's Next Standard Set: Prerelease September 25, Jace's Echoverse, and Six Commander Decks
Three days after The Hobbit hit shelves, the next Magic set already has a date. Reality Fracture releases October 2 with prerelease events September 25 to October 1, a return to the Prepare mechanic, echoed card pairs, and a four-color Jace Beleren Commander deck.
The Hobbit has been on shelves for three days and the Secret Lair Superdrop went live this morning. Middle-earth is going to own the conversation for another week or two. But the Magic release calendar does not wait, and the next Standard-legal set already has a date on it.
Reality Fracture releases October 2, 2026, with prerelease events running September 25 through October 1 at local game stores and an MTG Arena launch on September 29. That is six weeks out. If you sell singles, run drafts, or budget your Magic spending in quarters, this is the set to start planning around now.
The Set in One Paragraph
Reality Fracture is the 113th Magic expansion and the fourth set in the third and final arc of the Metronome storyline. It takes place in the Echoverse, an alternate Multiverse tied to Jace Beleren, and the whole design leans into the idea of things existing twice. Wizards has confirmed the returning Prepare mechanic, a set of reflection cards, serialized cards, and several new collectible treatments.
Echoed Pairs and Shattered Mirrors
Two collector-facing ideas are worth understanding before spoiler season goes into full swing.
- Echoed pairs. The set includes both the original version of a card and its Echoverse counterpart. The alternate version carries an Echoverse watermark, which makes it visually obvious which side of the Multiverse you are holding.
- Shattered mirror pairs. These are new cards designed to echo iconic cards from earlier sets. They are not reprints. They are deliberate visual and mechanical rhymes with things longtime players already recognize.
Both of those concepts create the same collector pressure: people will want the matched set. Sets that reward completing a pair tend to see the cheaper half of the pair climb faster than anyone expects, because the expensive half sets the ceiling and the cheap half becomes the bottleneck.
Six Commander Products
Reality Fracture ships with six Commander decks, which is a heavier Commander slate than a normal Standard set carries.
- Multiverse Reforged is the marquee deck, a four-color white-blue-black-red build led by a new version of Jace Beleren with 16 new cards in the box.
- Five mono-color Foundations Commander Decks round out the release, one per color.
The mono-color Foundations decks are aimed squarely at new and returning players, which usually means they get printed deep and sit on shelves. The four-color Jace deck is the one worth pre-ordering if you want it at MSRP, because four-color legendary commanders have a track record of pulling in Commander players who otherwise skip precons entirely.
Serialized cards are confirmed for the set, but the serialization scheme and print run had not been fully detailed as of this writing. Treat any specific numbering you see quoted online before official previews as unconfirmed.
What to Do Between Now and September 25
If You Play
Prerelease seats at popular stores for a set with a returning mechanic tend to fill in the first week they go on sale. Call your shop now and ask when they open prerelease registration. Many local game stores post it on their own social accounts and never announce it in the store.
If You Collect
The Hobbit is still in its post-release price discovery window. Historically, the last two weeks before a new set's prerelease are when the previous set's chase cards soften, because attention and dollars rotate forward. If you missed something in The Hobbit, mid-September is usually a friendlier window than release week was.
If You Run a Shop
Reality Fracture prerelease weekend lands the same week the calendar flips to October, which is when a lot of shops start their fall league seasons. Stacking prerelease registration with league signups has been a reliable way to convert one-time prerelease attendees into weekly players.
The Rest of 2026
After Reality Fracture, two more Magic products are on the 2026 calendar: Mystery Booster: Commander Edition on November 9 and Star Trek on November 13. That is a dense fourth quarter, and it means Reality Fracture will have roughly five weeks of clear air before the next thing lands.
Spoiler season for Reality Fracture will ramp up in the second half of September. Until then, the practical move is simple: get your prerelease seat, and use your local shop's preorder list rather than fighting the online rush on release day. Use The Card Shop Finder to find Magic shops near you running prerelease events.
