Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution Chaos Rising Goes Live May 21 With a Two-Month Ranked Ladder and Trainer Trials

Mega Evolution: Chaos Rising hit Pokemon TCG Live today, May 21, with the physical set arriving May 22. The launch comes with an extended Ranked Ladder running through July 16, Trainer Trials reviving the 2025 Worlds format, and a Mega Lucario ex League Battle Deck on the way.

The fourth expansion of the Mega Evolution era is here. Mega Evolution: Chaos Rising went live on Pokemon TCG Live today, May 21, with the physical English product hitting shelves tomorrow, May 22. After weeks of card reveals and a prerelease window earlier this month, the set is finally playable and pullable — and it lands with a fresh competitive season attached to it.

What Is in Chaos Rising

Chaos Rising brings more than 120 cards built around the Legends Z-A theme, with Lumiose City woven through the Illustration Rares and a roster of Mega Evolution Pokemon ex headlining the chase list.

  • Mega Greninja ex — the marquee chase card and the one most collectors are opening boxes to find.
  • Mega Pyroar ex, Mega Floette ex, and Mega Dragalge ex — rounding out the set's Mega Evolution lineup.
  • New Trainer cards and Illustration Rares — including art tied directly to the Z-A setting that the block has been building toward all year.

A Longer Ranked Ladder to Match

The digital launch is bigger than just new cards. Pokemon TCG Live is rolling out an extended Ranked Ladder that runs from today all the way to July 16, 2026 — a noticeably longer competitive season than usual. For ladder grinders, that means more runway to climb without the usual mid-cycle reset, and more time to test Chaos Rising decks before the metagame settles.

"A two-month ladder is a gift for anyone building around a new set. You get to fail, adjust, and actually find the good lists instead of panic-laddering in the final week."

Trainer Trials Bring Back the 2025 Worlds Format

Running alongside the launch, two Trainer Trials challenges are available from May 21 through June 18, dropping players back into the format from the 2025 Pokemon World Championships. It is a fun bit of nostalgia and a low-stakes way to play with decks that have since rotated out of Standard.

What Is Coming to Retail Next

The booster product is only part of the rollout. Two follow-up releases are on the way that competitive and collector buyers will both want on their radar:

  • A League Battle Deck featuring Mega Lucario ex — a ready-to-play, tournament-legal deck for players who would rather buy in than build from singles.
  • A Premium Collection featuring Mega Zygarde ex — the kind of box that pairs a strong promo with accessories and packs.

Should You Buy In Now?

If you are a player, the digital release means you can test Chaos Rising decks today before committing money to physical singles. If you are a collector, opening day pricing on chase cards like Mega Greninja ex tends to run hot for the first week or two before settling, so there is rarely a penalty for waiting a beat. Either way, this is the most content-packed Pokemon launch of the late spring, and it sets the table for the rest of the Mega Evolution block.
