This Week in Card Releases (Aug 24-30): Chrome Black Basketball, Panini Noir, OP-17, and a Loaded Friday

The final week of August is one of the busiest release stretches of the summer. Topps opens order windows four days straight, Panini Noir Basketball arrives, and One Piece OP-17, new Pokemon tins, and a Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship pack all land before Sunday.

A Loaded Final Week of August

The last full week of August is stacked. Between Topps opening order windows on four straight days, Panini dropping its highest-end basketball product, and three different TCGs shipping new product before Sunday, there is something on the calendar almost every day. Here is the whole week in one place, so you can decide where your budget actually goes.

Sports Cards: Topps Owns the Front Half

Tuesday, August 25 β€” Topps Chrome Star Wars (Pre-Order)

The pre-order window for the next Chrome Star Wars release opens Tuesday. Entertainment Chrome has quietly been one of the stronger non-sport performers this year, and refractor-driven Star Wars sets tend to hold shelf value better than most licensed products.

Wednesday, August 26 β€” Chrome Sapphire and Team Samurai Japan

Wednesday is the big one: 2026 Topps Chrome Sapphire Baseball and the Chrome Team Samurai Japan Collection both go on sale direct from Topps. We covered both in depth over the weekend β€” the short version is that Sapphire is an online-window product where the ordering period itself is the product, and Samurai Japan puts Ohtani and Japanese legends in the same checklist.

Thursday, August 27 β€” Topps Chrome Black Basketball

Chrome Black makes its basketball debut in the Topps era. Expect the familiar formula: small box, encased autograph, and a checklist that lives or dies on the rookie class. With Cooper Flagg and A.J. Dybantsa hype still running hot, first-year Chrome Black basketball autos will get attention.

Friday, August 28 β€” Panini Noir Basketball and Topps Eccellenza F1

Panini answers with Noir, its dark-luxe high-end basketball brand, expected Friday. The same day, Topps opens pre-orders on Eccellenza Formula 1, its top-shelf F1 offering. If your shop stocks either, Friday is the day to be there early.

TCG Releases: Three Games, Three Days

Friday, August 28 β€” One Piece OP-17 and Pokemon Mega Forces Tins

The English wide release of One Piece OP-17 lands Friday alongside new Pokemon tins. OP-17 is the week's biggest TCG event by far β€” we have a separate launch-week guide covering what the Japanese release already told us about the chase.

Saturday, August 29 β€” Yu-Gi-Oh Limited Pack World Championship 2026

Konami's World Championship celebration pack releases Saturday, available at the World Championship event in Japan and at participating Official Tournament Stores. It is a 21-card set with Starlight Rare and Ukiyo-e variant artwork chases β€” small checklist, real scarcity, worth a call to your local OTS about allocation.

Looking Ahead

Monday, August 31 opens pre-orders on 2026 Topps Museum Collection Baseball, and Panini Prizm Baseball follows September 4. In other words: the fall gauntlet starts now.

The Bottom Line

  • Biggest sports release: Chrome Sapphire Baseball (Wednesday, online window)
  • Biggest TCG release: One Piece OP-17 English (Friday)
  • Sleeper: Yu-Gi-Oh Limited Pack WCS 2026 β€” tiny set, tournament-store exclusive

Use our directory to find a shop near you carrying this week's releases β€” allocation on the TCG side especially will vary store to store, and a phone call beats a wasted drive.
