Topps Motif Basketball Pre-Orders Open Today: 100 Base Cards, and Eight Cards In The Whole Box

Pre-orders for 2025-26 Topps Motif Basketball open today at 1 p.m. Eastern. It is a premium art-themed release with a 100-card base set, autograph subsets built around watercolor, charcoal and spray paint concepts, and a configuration of exactly one eight-card pack per box.

Topps opens pre-orders for 2025-26 Motif Basketball today, and it is one of the strangest configurations on the shelf right now: one pack per box, eight cards in that pack, three boxes to a case. That is the entire product. You open it in about fifteen seconds.

Motif is Topps trying to build a premium art brand rather than another chrome refractor line. The pitch is that athletes become collectible artwork, and the autograph subsets are named after the mediums they imitate - watercolor, charcoal, spray paint, pop art, and gallery portraiture.

What Is Actually In The Box

  • Base set: 100 cards, which is small by modern basketball standards and genuinely set-buildable
  • Configuration: 8 cards per pack, 1 pack per hobby box, 3 boxes per case
  • Autographs: multiple signature concepts split by art medium, each with its own design language
  • Rookie Relic Autographs: back again, with dual, triple, and quad versions in the mix

The eight-card box is the part that will split the room. If you like premium products where every card matters, this is the format you have been asking for. If you buy boxes to open boxes, eight cards is going to feel thin no matter what falls out.

How To Think About Pre-Order Day

Pre-orders for premium Topps basketball have a pattern: allocations tighten fast, the first wave of shop pricing is the cheapest it will be until the product is fully out and settled, and the secondary flip window is short. That is not a reason to buy - it is a reason to decide before you click.

The 100-card base set is the sleeper here. Small premium base sets in basketball tend to get quietly expensive two years later, because nobody sets out to build them while boxes are still opening.

The Local Shop Angle

Three boxes per case means your local shop is not getting a wall of this. If you want a box at retail rather than at a secondary markup, the conversation to have is the one where you walk in this week and ask them to put you down for one. Shops allocate premium product to the people who show up before release, not after.

If you do not have a shop you buy premium product from yet, that is worth fixing before the fall basketball calendar gets busy. Find a card shop near you and start the relationship now.

Where Motif Sits In The Fall Calendar

Basketball is entering its heaviest release stretch, and Motif is landing in the same window as Definitive and the rest of the premium slate. The rookie class is the gravitational center of all of it. Rookie Relic Autographs from an art-forward brand tend to hold better than generic patch autos from the same class, simply because the design is memorable - and in a class with dozens of competing rookie cards, memorable is what survives.

Pre-orders open today at 5:00 p.m. UTC, which is 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
