Lawrence game hub for Magic: The Gathering players, with Friday Night Magic, Commander nights, Pokemon and Flesh and Blood cards, and free play space.
The Dragon's Hoard started as a small husband-and-wife game shop and moved in November 2025 from Pennsylvania Street to a much bigger space on East 23rd Street. The new store is about 3,900 square feet. Most of that space is for play: two public game rooms, two private rooms, an event hall that can run several games at once, and a quieter room for anyone who wants less noise.
Magic: The Gathering is the main card game here. The store's Wizards event calendar has play almost every day, including Friday Night Magic, Saturday and Sunday Magic, Monday Night Magic, Wednesday EDH, Standard Showdowns and Commander parties around new set releases. Pokemon and Flesh and Blood cards are also available, and visitors have noted a good supply of MTG cards on the shelves. Board games, D&D, Warhammer and paints fill out the rest of the store.
The biggest difference here is that you don't pay to sit down. The owners have said they want people to be able to play without paying first, so the tables are free, and a Patreon membership helps fund the space. Regulars have a reputation for teaching new players instead of beating them, which makes this Lawrence card shop a good first stop if you're new to Commander or organized play. You can bring your own games or borrow one from the play room's library.
Hours run 11AM-9PM Monday through Thursday, 11AM-10PM Friday, 10AM-11PM Saturday and noon-9PM Sunday. Friday Night Magic starts at 5PM, and Saturday Magic starts mid-afternoon. For a quieter look at the card cases, come in on a weekday before the evening events start.
The store is at 1800 E 23rd St, Suite B2, on the east side of town. Call 785-766-9608 or check the store's website for the current event lineup before you go. The event list changes with each new Magic set, so an event you went to last month may not be on this month's schedule.
