Most shops on an Independence card shop list are card-first with a hobby sideline. Build Up! runs the other direction, and that is precisely what makes it worth the stop. The specialty is Japanese import hobby: Bandai Gunpla stacked wall to wall, Kotobukiya Frame Arms, Bandai's 30 Minute Missions line, Armored Core kits, water transfer decals, paints and build tools, and anime figures. Customers report driving thirty to forty minutes specifically for the kit selection, which skews heavily toward High Grade with lighter Master Grade and Real Grade stock.
Trading cards live alongside all of it, with Pokemon the main line, and every card directory covering eastern Jackson County lists Build Up! among Independence's card destinations. The pairing works better than it sounds — the same customer buying a kit is often the customer buying Japanese-market TCG product.
The third thing on the shelves is food. Build Up! stocks imported Japanese snacks, candy and drinks, and reviewers single out the selection specifically because it includes things the local Asian groceries do not carry.
