Enormous play floor, a free-to-use game library, and Thursday-night Magic — Myrtle Beach Games is the Grand Strand's deepest TCG and tabletop room.
Scale is the first thing that registers at Myrtle Beach Games. The seating area for open gaming is genuinely large, the board game shelves run deeper than anything else on the Grand Strand, and there is a free lending library of open games that customers can pull down and play on-site without buying anything. Owner Anthony and his staff built the place around people staying rather than passing through, and it works.
On the card side the store carries Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Star Wars Unlimited in sealed and singles, with the supplies, sleeves and deck boxes to match. One correction worth knowing before you plan a trip: Magic play runs on Thursday nights here, not Friday, which trips up visitors used to the standard Friday Night Magic schedule everywhere else.
The rest of the floor covers miniatures for painters, dice, an anime and manga section, and a Pop figure wall. A running gimmick that regulars swear by is the roll-the-dice discount at checkout, open to everyone including tourists rather than reserved for members, so a random roll can knock down the price of whatever you brought to the counter.
The crowd is the other asset. Reviews from visiting collectors repeatedly note how quickly staff and regulars fold newcomers into whatever is happening, which is why families on vacation end up returning a second and third time in the same week.
Hours are unusually late, which is the practical selling point. Tuesday through Thursday runs eleven in the morning to eleven at night, Friday and Saturday noon to eleven, and Sunday one to nine. Monday is short, five to ten in the evening only. Late evenings are when the play floor is fullest, so time your visit by whether you want the scene or the quiet. The shop sits on Socastee Boulevard with its own lot, well away from beach traffic.
