2025 Topps Tier One Baseball Hobby Box: Two Autos, a Relic and a Four-Card Pack

Sep 2025from $560.001 sealed products

Tier One is the smallest serious box Topps makes for baseball: one pack, four cards, three of them hits. The 2025 edition came out on September 10, 2025, and added bat-knob autograph cards and a City Connect signature set to a formula that has not changed in years. This page covers what the pack holds, how the checklist is tiered and what a sealed box asks now. Every year of the line is in our Topps Tier One guide.

Four cards, by design

A 2025 Tier One hobby box is a single pack of four cards: on average two autographs, one relic and one base card or parallel. A case is 12 boxes. There is no filler, which is the point of the product and also its risk. With three hits and one base card, the whole value of a box rides on whose names come out.

A tiered base set

The 100-card base set is split into three tiers that fall at different rates. Tier 2 base cards come about 1 in 10 packs and Tier 1 base about 1 in 30, so the box's fourth card is usually a lower-tier base or a parallel. Base parallels run through Purple Foil, Red Foil, Holo Gold Foil and Holo Platinum Blue Foil to printing plates. Because a box is one pack, "1 in 30 packs" here means one Tier 1 base card every 30 boxes, which is why those cards cost more than the tier names suggest.

The autographs that decide a box

Most of the money is in the signatures. The 2025 checklist spans current stars and retired names, including:

  • Bobby Witt Jr., Elly De La Cruz, James Wood and Paul Skenes;
  • Frank Thomas and Nolan Ryan among the retired players.

Four autograph sets are new this year:

  • Top Shelf Signatures: retired players.
  • City Connect Signatures: players pictured in their City Connect uniforms.
  • Tier One Shots: close-up photography of current stars.
  • Clearly Perfect Autographs: an acetate-and-paper card.

Alongside them run on-card autographs, booklets and cut signatures of historical players.

The relic side, and the bat knobs

The relic hit is where Tier One gets unusual. Besides autographed relics such as Limited Lumber, All-Star jumbo patches, grip cards and Prodigious Patches, the set carries bat-knob cards: the knob of a game-used bat set into the card as a 1/1. 2025 adds a new MLB Bat Knob Sticker autograph card. Single bat knobs have drawn attention for their designs, including an Evan Longoria knob with a Charizard on it. They are the cards that make a $600 box feel like a lottery ticket.

What it costs

BoxAsking price (eBay, 6 Oct 2026)
2025 Tier One hobby box$560-$663.95 (eight listings)
Middle of the rangeAbout $600-$640

Eight fixed-price listings sitting within about $100 of each other is a settled market for a high-end box, a year after release. One listing is a box sold from Japan, which is the same product. A 12-box case puts all of this on a much larger scale, and case breaks are a common way in for collectors chasing one team.

Is it worth opening?

For a buyer who wants a box of guaranteed signed cards, Tier One is one of the cleanest ways to get them: three hits from four cards, and no 20-pack rip to sit through. The weakness is the floor. The autograph checklist is deep, so a box can just as easily produce two lesser signatures and a plain relic worth a fraction of the price. Most boxes return less than they cost. That is normal for this tier of product, and why a single-player buyer is better off with the graded card.

Sealed, a Tier One box tends to be a slow mover. The product returns every year with a similar design, and a hit-driven box does not lean on one rookie class the way a Chrome or Bowman box does. It is mainly a box to open.

Where Tier One sits among Topps' hit-driven boxes

2025 Topps Five Star hobby5 on-card autographs and a numbered base cardFrom about $1,750

Tier One sits in the middle: fewer signatures than Five Star, but a checklist weighted to established major leaguers and retired stars rather than the prospects in Pro Debut.

Checking the box

A one-pack box is easy to weigh or feel for a thick relic, and that makes resealing the main risk. Look for tight factory shrink with clean folds, no loose corners and no second layer of plastic. Treat any listing showing the pack outside the box as opened. Shops with a Topps allocation sell boxes from sealed cases; find one near you. Online:
