1st Edition booster box
A 1st Edition Team Rocket box contains 36 packs spread across four pack arts, and the 1st Edition wording is printed on the wrap and stamped on each card. Sealed boxes have traded between roughly $12,000 and $35,000 over the past year, with auction results at the top of that band for boxes with crisp wrap, and higher outliers for authenticated examples with Heritage or PWCC provenance. It trades roughly monthly rather than weekly.
1st Edition booster packs
Loose 1st Edition Team Rocket packs are one of the busiest vintage listings on eBay. Raw packs are $450 to $800, with the Giovanni and Rocket's Sneak Attack arts usually a touch above the others, and graded PSA or CGC packs are $600 to $1,100. Unlimited booster box
Unlimited Team Rocket boxes were on sale into 2001 and are the more common find. Unlimited packs trade at $150 to $300 raw and are a popular pick for collectors who want a sealed pack with a real chance at a Dark Charizard.
Theme decks: Devastation and Trouble
Team Rocket has two theme decks. Devastation is a Fire and Psychic deck and Trouble is a Grass and Water deck; both are 60-card decks with a holo rare, a coin and damage counters. Unlimited decks sell for $170 to $350 sealed, and 1st Edition decks for $400 to $900. The Devastation deck tends to lead because of its Fire theme and Dark Pokémon holo.
Blisters
Single-pack blisters exist for both prints and typically bring $200 to $500 for Unlimited, more for a 1st Edition pack visible in the window.

Dark Blastoise 3/82, Dark Dragonite 5/82, Dark Gyarados 8/82 and Dark Alakazam 1/82 form the next tier, and the two Rocket trainer holos (Here Comes Team Rocket! 15/82 and Rocket's Sneak Attack 16/82) round out the interesting pulls. Is Team Rocket worth buying sealed?
Team Rocket is the vintage box with the best combination of demand and availability outside Base Set. The Dark Charizard keeps interest high and the set was printed in reasonable but not enormous numbers, so sealed supply has tightened noticeably since 2020. Prices peaked in 2021, retraced in 2022 and have pushed back toward those highs across 2025 and 2026, with Unlimited boxes showing the strongest year-over-year gains. As always with WOTC product, expected value per pack is not the reason to buy; it is a hold, and the 1st Edition box is the premium version of that hold.
How to spot fakes and resealed products
Team Rocket has three overlapping problems. First, pack weighing: packs from 2000 were still not weight-balanced, so a pack with a holo weighs more, and the market is full of light packs sold as "unweighed." Second, resealing: Team Rocket packs use a darker foil wrap, and resealers rely on that to hide crimp work. Under a bright light, a factory crimp shows a clean, evenly spaced tooth pattern along the entire edge; a resealed pack shows crushed or doubled teeth, a slightly shorter overall pack, glue shine or a foil edge that has been cut and folded. Third, fake 1st Edition stamps: because the 1st Edition Dark Charizard is worth many multiples of the Unlimited card, counterfeit stamps are common on singles and on cards placed into resealed packs. The genuine stamp is dense black with sharp edges and a consistent position; fakes read gray, soft or slightly misaligned, and a stamp that sits on a card with an Unlimited copyright layout is an instant fail.
For boxes, real Team Rocket wrap is thin, has a single seam and small vent holes, and wraps the box snugly with slight cloudiness. Heavy gloss, double seams, heat-gun swirl or a wrap that slides on the box mean it was rewrapped. Insist on photos of every side of the seal, including a close-up of the seam and the corners, before you send money for any box, and expect a discount on a box the seller will not photograph. Boxes reviewed by BBCE or graded by PSA, CGC or Beckett trade at a premium for exactly this reason, and for a purchase at this price level the premium is usually worth paying.
