BLADE stands for Big Lick Adventures Dreams & Entertainment, and the downtown Roanoke shop lives up to the mouthful. Set in a two-story building on Salem Avenue SW, a short walk from Big Lick Brewing and the Virginia Museum of Transportation, Blade Gaming splits its space between a recently remodeled retail floor downstairs and a large gaming area upstairs that hosts events most nights it is open.

Card players are the core audience. Pokemon collectors praise the bulk bins and the singles case, and reviewers regularly mention leaving with a free card or a pack thrown in by staff. Magic: The Gathering gets weekly drafts and Commander pods, and the store bills itself as the area's Yu-Gi-Oh! headquarters with exclusive events. Board games, Dungeons & Dragons books, Warhammer 40K, Gunpla kits, dice, playmats, and plushes fill out the rest of the shelves, and there is even a disc golf section that claims the largest selection in Roanoke.

What sets this Roanoke card shop apart is how welcoming it is to newcomers. Multiple reviews describe staff walking first-time drafters through the rules or sitting down to teach a game, and the upstairs tables are open for casual play outside of scheduled tournaments. Weekends are busy, so expect a full house on Saturday afternoons.

Hours are evening-heavy: closed Monday and Tuesday, 5PM to 9PM Wednesday, 3PM to 10PM Thursday, 3PM to 11PM Friday, and noon to 8PM Saturday and Sunday. Street parking on Salem Avenue is limited, but the Premium Parking Salem Lot at 351 Salem Ave and the Campbell Garage are both within a few hundred feet.
