Yakima's newest game store mixes MTG, Pokemon and Lorcana with Warhammer and Marvel Crisis Protocol, and keeps the lights on until midnight on Fridays.

Appletown Game & Hobby opened its doors on W Nob Hill Boulevard in early 2026, which makes it the youngest card shop in Yakima and, judging by the reviews, one of the fastest to build a regular crowd. Owner Kurt Luther set the store up as a hybrid: trading cards along one side, tabletop miniatures along the other, and a play area in between that fills up on Friday nights when the shop stays open until midnight.

On the card side, Magic: The Gathering leads, with the shop already registered as a WPN store for sanctioned play. Pokemon sealed product and Disney Lorcana are stocked, and Appletown joined both the Lorcana Play Network and the Riftbound Play Network, so league nights and promo events for those games rotate through the calendar. Because the store is new, allocation on hot releases can be tight, and reviewers repeatedly credit the owner for being upfront about what will and will not be in stock instead of overpromising.

The hobby side is where Appletown stands apart from other trading card stores in Yakima. Warhammer 40K, Age of Sigmar and Kill Team boxes share shelving with Marvel Crisis Protocol and Star Wars Shatterpoint, plus paints, dice and D&D books. That mix draws painters and wargamers who might never have walked into a Pokemon shop, and the crossover crowd is part of the appeal on game nights.

Hours are built for after-work and weekend play rather than morning shoppers. The shop is closed Monday and Tuesday, opens at noon Wednesday through Sunday, closes at 8PM most days, stretches to 10PM Saturday and runs to midnight Friday. Opening day drew a crowd larger than the space could comfortably hold, which produced the store's single one-star review; visitors since then describe a settled, sociable room. Kyros Cards is a two-minute drive east on the same boulevard, making a Nob Hill card crawl easy.
