MJ Cards and Games

MJ Cards and Games is the Mat-Su Valley's friendly local game store in Wasilla, specializing in Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Warhammer, and tabletop RPGs. A community-focused shop known for welcoming newcomers and running regular in-store events.

MJ Cards and Games serves as the Mat-Su Valley's dedicated hobby gaming destination, filling a crucial niche for the thousands of residents spread across Wasilla, Palmer, and the surrounding Mat-Su Borough communities. Located on East Bogard Road, the store is a welcoming retreat from the big-box retail landscape that defines much of Wasilla's commercial corridor.

The shop's product focus reflects the broad tastes of the tabletop gaming community. Magic: The Gathering is a centerpiece, with a strong singles inventory and sealed product for every current and recent format. Pokémon collectors and players will find booster sets, tins, and competitive staples. Warhammer 40K, Bolt Action, and X-Wing miniature games occupy prominent shelf space, with the store maintaining starter sets and expansion products for each system.

D&D and other tabletop RPG systems are well-represented, making MJ Cards a destination for the Mat-Su Valley's role-playing community as well as its trading card crowd. Accessories — sleeves, binders, deck boxes, dice — are stocked in abundance at competitive prices.

The store runs regular in-store events throughout the week, including Magic: The Gathering game nights and trading sessions that have become cornerstones of the local hobby calendar. The friendly, inclusive atmosphere is frequently noted in customer reviews, with parents bringing children for their first game store experience and seasoned veterans finding a place to trade and play.

Owner and staff take a hands-on approach to community building, actively engaging with customers on social media and adapting the events schedule to meet community demand. MJ Cards has become more than a store — it's a social hub for tabletop gaming in the Mat-Su Valley, a region that lacks the dense hobby shop concentration of Anchorage.

The store is closed Sundays, so plan your visit for Monday through Saturday. With afternoon opening hours catering to after-school and after-work shoppers, it's a convenient stop for Valley residents looking to pick up cards, supplies, or join in on a game night.
