The Northeast Kansas Card Show opens its 2027 season at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds in Lawrence on Saturday, January 23, 2027. Commons bins and monster boxes are a signature of this show, and January is the best digging month of the year here. Set builders should plan on several hours. Graded slabs from PSA, SGC and BGS are available alongside unopened wax from the 1980s forward, autographed baseballs and helmets, game-used equipment, programs, pennants and non-sport sets. Trading card game dealers bring Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh!, with occasional One Piece and Disney Lorcana.
Doors open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23 and the show runs through the afternoon. January crowds build gradually rather than surging at open, which makes the first hour unusually pleasant for browsing and for actually talking with dealers about what they brought and what they left at home.
Admission is a small door fee paid on arrival, with no advance ticketing, no VIP tier and no early-entry option. Children are admitted free with a paying adult.
The Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds sit on the north side of Lawrence with abundant free parking directly outside the building, ground-level entry, on-site restrooms and usually concessions. The building is heated, which matters in January. From the Kansas City metro it is a forty to fifty minute drive on K-10 or I-70 - check road conditions before committing to the trip, since winter weather in eastern Kansas can turn that drive quickly.
This show is for vintage hunters, set builders, bargain shoppers, Jayhawks collectors, and dealers restocking for the year ahead. It is a good first show for anyone new to the hobby, because the pace is slow and the dealers have time to talk.
Bring cash, a want list organized by set and year, penny sleeves and toploaders, a tote, and a folding stool if you intend to dig seriously. Arrive early for raw vintage. Ask dealers what else they have at home - January sellers frequently have far more inventory than fits on a single table, and the best January buys often happen in that conversation rather than off the tabletop.
