Four thousand square feet of Lakeland card and comic inventory with a 200-seat tournament room and 100% store credit payouts on Magic events.
Scale is the story at JohnnyB's. The Northtowne Center building runs roughly 4,000 square feet and can seat 200 players, which puts it in a different category from most Lakeland card shops — this is a tournament complex with a retail front, not a counter with a folding table in the back. Certified judges and tournament organizers run Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and One Piece events, and the shop advertises 100% store credit payout on Magic: The Gathering tournaments.
The retail side spans further than the marquee TCGs. Sports cards, non-sport and entertainment sets, action figures, sports memorabilia, and a large comics section share the floor, so a family visit rarely ends with one person waiting by the door. Glass-case Pokemon singles start around $5 and binder singles run $1 to $4 — a real price range rather than chase cards only.
One honest caveat from reviews: bulk browsing is not on offer. The shop keeps a very large backstock but does not let customers dig through it, so sub-dollar singles need to be requested from a list. Casual collectors who like to sift will find that limiting; players who arrive knowing what they need will find it efficient.
Monday is a hard closure. Tuesday through Friday the doors open at 2PM and stay open until 10PM, Saturday runs a full 10AM to 10PM, and Sunday is a shorter noon to 6PM. Evening event nights are the busiest and best for trading; Saturday morning is the calmest time to shop the cases.
The shop has been a fixture on US 98 North for years and draws players from Plant City, Winter Haven, and the north Polk County suburbs. Parking is ample in the plaza lot, and the room stays clean and well-lit even on packed tournament nights.
