Die Hard Games

Afternoon-to-late tabletop haven on S 6th Street stocking Magic, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards beside a legendary wall of miniatures and dice.

Die Hard Games opens at 3PM most weekdays, and by evening the S 6th Street shop is exactly what a locally owned game store should be: tables running D&D sessions, historical wargames, and TCG matches while the retail side hums along. The store motto — "we don't necessarily need to be the only choice of game stores in the area, we just want to be your first choice" — captures the service-first attitude regulars keep mentioning in reviews.

Card players have a real home here. The shop sells Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! from loose singles through starter decks and collector boxes, hosts tournaments across all three games, and has added Disney Lorcana demos as the game has grown. Scheduled play slots and one-on-one game facilitation lower the barrier for anyone nervous about their first event night.

The non-card inventory is genuinely remarkable — the north wall, dubbed the "Wall of Bones," holds thousands of miniatures, and staff famously know where every figure lives. Dice by the set or by the pound, paints, RPG modules, and a consignment program for used games fill out the floor. That breadth means a Springfield card shop run here can double as a supply stop for the whole gaming hobby.

Hours: 3PM to 10PM Monday through Thursday, 3PM to 11PM Friday, noon to 10PM Saturday, and noon to 5PM Sunday. At 4.6 stars across 175 Google reviews, Die Hard has earned its reputation as the community's living room — come for the Pokemon singles, stay for whatever's happening at the tables.
